Since 2012, the Government of South Korea has relocated numerous ministries and agencies to Sejong City.
The City got its name, “Sejong”, through a public naming contest and started off with Yeongi-Gun, surrounded by Daejeon, Chungju, Gongju and Cheonan, as its center. As central administrative agencies were moved from capital area to Sejong, it was developed as a multi-functional administrative city. Seoul-Busan railway line and National Highway Route 1 pass through Sejong City. In addition, Chungbuk railway line starts from the city, and two major expressways, Gyeongbu and Jungbu, are in the vicinity.
