LINE Friends and BT21
When it comes to theme cafes, South Korea is in a league of its own. The country is a paradise for those who adore cafe culture. Coffee is a widely consumed beverage in Korea, so naturally popular brands have taken to producing their own cafes. Letโs take a look at the LINE Friendsโ flagship store in Hongdae and the BT21 cafe!
If youโre a fan of BTS or indeed LINE Friends, youโll definitely have heard of BT21. BT21 are an adorable collection of characters, designed together by BTS and LINE Friends. The Bangtan Boys famously created the characters and their names at the Itaewon LINE Friends store. Moreover, LINE Friends brought the characters to life through cute toys, clothes, accessories, merchandise etc.
BT21 Cafe
The BT21 range can be found at other LINE Friends stores, such as in Gangnam and Itaewon, but the flagship store in Hongdae has a huge BT21 themed cafe. When you enter the store, you can queue up to have a picture with the giant LINE Friends bear in front of the entrance. On the 2nd floor, youโll find all the BT21 merchโฆ try not to spend all your money! And on the basement level, youโll find the cafe!
The cafe is filled with BT21 models and decor. On the walls, youโll see neon art and paintings both cute and cool. It is the perfect photo zone, so even if you donโt want to spend money on BT21 merch (it can be expensive!) you can relax and get a drink in the cafe.
The cafe is super fun but also relaxing. The ambience will make you want to stay there for a long time. Of course, it goes without saying that BTS discography is played out the speakers too! I couldnโt help singing along. If youโre a huge fan of BTS like me, youโll think this cafe is heaven.
Menu
Remember when I said Korean theme cafes were in a league of their own? Well at the BT21 cafe, even the snacks and beverages are themed! Each character has their own menu item, so you can choose according to your favourite character or taste. However, itโs worth noting that the signature character items are usually the most expensive. If youโre looking to drink cheap, you can choose one of the LINE Friends themed or regular cafe menu items.
I ordered the chicken and fries snack with the Chimmy ice cream, which was a delicious combination. The Chimmy ice cream was so creamy and had a popcorn topping. Additionally, each theme item comes with a character sticker and autograph, perfect for fans.
Getting there
Getting to the cafe is super easy by public transport. Simply head to Hongik University Station (Line 2) and leave via exit 2. When you leave the station, youโll notice the huge white rabbit statue, behind which is the LINE Friends store and BT21 cafe!
