Would you like to try authentic Korean food while traveling in Seoul? Then try to eat the people’s favorite – Dakgalbi (닭갈비). It is a spicy stir-fried chicken dish made with boneless chicken pieces, rice cakes (tteokbokki), green cabbage, sweet potato, and other vegetables. And if you happen to visit Myeongdong, head to Yoogane Chicken Galbi, Korea’s brand representative of the said dish.
Yoogane Chicken Galbi started as chicken galbi restaurant in 1981 named as “Botongjip”. They developed the dakgalbi that locals like into a new tasting dakgalbi by grilling instead of roasting. In addition, Yoogane’s own chicken rib food culture was created by introducing a fusion menu called “Chicken galbi Fried rice” from fried rice. The Yoogane brand is now a restaurant chain with 300 branches as of 2020 where Koreans love to eat their favorite dakgalbi. It is also a factor that they offer meals at an affordable price for students and office workers.

They offer Chef’s Specialties such as Cheese Chicken Galbi, Char-Grilled Dakgalbi, Chicken Bulgogi, Chicken galbi with Assorted Seafood and many more. These dishes are definitely worth the try if you want to have a taste of authentic Korean cuisine.
While their main dishes are the variety of chicken galbi with their twist of their signature fried rice. Eating dakgalbi with rice is indeed a good combination.
Additionally, they also have extraordinary dishes on their menu such as Tteokbokki, Korean style seafood pancake or panjeon and cold noodles with vegetables. These dishes add variety to the wide selection of dishes on the menu.
Moreover, they also serve additional dishes such as mozzarella stuffed rice cakes, and other variety of rice cakes. They have different kinds of noodles such as Udon noodles, sticky noodles and ramyeon noodles.
The price of the dishes from Chef’s Specialties ranges from 9,500 KRW to 11,000 KRW per person. While for sharing menu ranges from 24,000 to 33,000 KRW.
On the other hand, the main dishes price costs 6,000 to 7,500 KRW.
In addition, the panjeon and cold noodles with vegetables cost 15,000 and 6,000 KRW respectively. While the dishes from the additional menu range 2,000 to 4,000 KRW. Beverages and Alcoholic Drinks are also available with price from 2,000 to 5,000 KRW.
The interior of Yoogane Chicken Galbi is just like a typical Dakgalbi restaurant where you could heat the food on your table. Their staff in Myeongdong branch is foreigner-friendly too and will even offer help to mix your dakgalbi. It is located in the heart of Myeongdong shopping street so it would be nice to dine there after a long day of walks and shopping.
Personally, it is my go-to Korean restaurant whenver me and my friends visit the area.
