Yongpyeong Resort is the perfect spot for a day trip from Seoul if you are in need of a dose of nature. Take in the greenery and take a deep breath of the clean mountain air.
Gangwondo
Gangwon Province is often known as the ideal day trip destination from Seoul. Thanks to the delicious Korean traditional cuisine, breathtaking natural scenery, and Korean drama filming sites,ย itโs becoming a hot tourist spot and a hot getaway spot for Koreans as well as expats living in South Korea. There is so much to eat, see, and indulge in when it comes to Gangwon.
Yongpyeong Resort
Yeongpyeong Resort, also known as Yongpyeong Ski Resort, is located at Mount Balwangsan in Pyeongchang in Gangwondo. This resort is mostly famous during the winter for its ski trails and beautiful snow scenery.ย The snowfall can go up to around 250cm, and this ski resort was selected to be the host of the Alpine Skiing event at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. ย However, itโs still an amazing place to visit during the summer. They have so many attractions and amenities here.
Cable Car
This is a must when you visit Yongpyeong Ski Resort! This is known to be the longest cable car in South Korea! This 7.4km adventure is a 1-hour ride total up & down the mountain. On your way up, youโre able to see the beautiful nature of Pyeongchang and the mountain Balwangsan. I went during the summer, so I was able to enjoy the greenery and the beautiful sky.

Once you reach the top, you will be able to enjoy the amazing scenery. They have different sections up there that allow you to enjoy different views.

One of the highlights of this place is the Skywalk. Before that, a little fun fact about the Balwangsan mountain, itโs named after the legend of the mother mountain where the eight kings are to be born. Janggun-bong, the general peak, and kal-bong (the knife peak) surrounding the mountains are known as the accompanying subject subjects of the king.
It was so windy up there that the worker said to take my cap off to prevent it from flying away. Despite it being summer, it was rather chilly, yet refreshing. The panoramic view was breathtaking. I took a few minutes just looking at the view, being present, and take some deep breaths. Having all that wind, water, air, trees, and clouds with you, you feel like youโre releasing every tension and energy that doesnโt serve you. You will feel so refreshed!

Mountain Coaster
The next attraction is the mountain coaster. Itโs this little yellow seat that you get into and it will take you down a trail in the woods. This was so much fun to take! The best part about this is since itโs not extreme, itโs suitable for all ages.

This mountain coaster slides down the 1300-meter-long steep slope with sharp curves at the maximum speed of 40km. You can control the speed that youโre going at with the handle in Infront of you.
This ride is really fun and healing because youโre sliding through the greenery forest and youโre allowed to scream as much as you want.

BBQ Picknique

Near the entrance of the resort, there were tables set up with BBQ set up on the table. I assumed they had an event going on and you can reserve the tables and grill meat together with your loved ones. There were many local families that looked like they were there for the weekend to spend time together. There was also a stage set up opposite it and there were live performances at night to watch while they all dine. Although Iโm not sure if they do this every night or just for the weekend.
Night Sightseeing
At night there was a ย performance of people singing while entertaining the guests. Ajummas and ahjussis were dancing and having the time of their lives. Yongpyeong Resort lights up the entrance at night so you get this beautiful castle structure.
I would totally recommend this attraction to you if youโre looking for a weekend nature getaway anytime!! <3
