The Kdrama “Start-up” starring Hallyu stars Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk, has been making buzz nowadays. It tells the story of people in the world startup companies including their hardships and way to success. Watching this drama will make you want to support start-up companies in achieving their business goals. But did you know that there is a creative space in Seoul where you can actually support start-up businesses? It’s the Under Stand Avenue (언더스탠드에비뉴) located in Seongsu.
About Under Stand Avenue
Understand Avenue is an outdoor mall and creative public cultural space. It is built from cargo containers which house the several start-up businesses’ stores. According to its website, it is an innovative start-up and founding platform that combines Shinhan Bank’s digital infrastructure to nurture and realize the dreams of young entrepreneurs. They provide a one-stop integrated solution from startup training to market testing, financial and investment support. They also help businesses in sales distribution and manpower needs. It is a space where young people work together for a better community by supporting each other.
This creative space was a filming site of the Kdrama “The Liar and His Lover” starring Red Velvet’s Joy and actor Lee Hyun-Woo. In the episode 7 of the drama, the two lead actors meet in front of the WALKSHOP-signed container. After meeting, they eat at Brinner on the opposite side of WALKSHOP.
Brinner offers delicious meal such as burgers, pasta and salad. But unfortunately, they closed their restaurant last June 28 of this year.
Under Stand Avenue Programs
One of its programs is the ‘Digital Life School’ which seeks to foster startup talents through team projects and personalized coaching. On the other hand, ‘Shinhan Dream Creator Education’ is for young people who dream of becoming video creators.
It is a follow-up support program which aims to strengthen the competence and self-sustainability of young entrepreneurs.
They also have the ‘Dream Matchmakers’ which supports young people who wish to find employment through employment training and job matching for promising startups. In addition, the program ‘Youth Station’ provides employment information and rest spaces for young the people.
‘Success Dream Academy’ provides training and networking for self-employed persons. While ‘Shinhan Consulting Space’ which provides customer-centered self-banking services such as loan counseling through digital display devices.
Market & Festival
Lastly, there is a Young Creators Market which introduces young entrepreneur brands to the visitors. Moreover, there are various cultural events and festivals that people could enjoy.

There are numerous shops inside the Under Stand Avenue such as Market AP where you can buy art prints.
Visitors can also buy clothes from AMIL Korean Modern.

How to go there
63 Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea
- Ride a subway then get off at Seoul Forest Station [서울숲역], Bundang Line or Yellow Line. Find your way out to Exit 3.
- From Exit 3, just walk about a minute in the opposite direction of Seoul Forest.
- There is no parking space, so please use public transportation.
- If you inevitably use a car, please use the nearby parking lot such as in Seoul Forest or Galleria Foret Underground Parking.
