There are few things in this world that are more important than a good self-care regime. Whether you enjoy going to the gym, playing video games, or love long spa days, having a way to destress yourself while living in South Korea is important for your emotional and mental stability. When it comes to my own mental health, I prefer traveling either by myself or with my significant other. But, you may be wondering how traveling can be seen as self-care. If so, then I have three travel tips for exploration and self-care.
One of the most important things in my life is travel. The ability to visit, live and learn about a new culture is one of the things that makes life worthwhile. Whether it be visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, experiencing the Shibuya crossing in Japan, or just traveling off the beaten path in the place you are currently living it is an extremely appealing thing that helps me to maintain a relatively calm mindset. While living in Korea, I have had the opportunity to experience and see lots of unique things.
One of my favorite things to do is just walk through the streets of Daejeon (my city) at night. During my walks, I take pictures and capture the raw and emotional lives of the people around me. It fills me with a sense of purpose. And, for that reason, traveling and exploration will always be on my list for exploration and self-care.
Quality Time with a Significant Other
This tip is interesting for me to write about because it is something that I never thought I would have in my life. When I travel, I have a certain way of doing things and I never thought I would find someone who shared the same travel goals. This changed when I met my now wife. We discovered that we love traveling together. During this past year, traveling with my partner has given me the opportunity to spend time learning more about her, while also allowing me the opportunity to learn more about myself.
This is a great way to relax and take care of your needs while seeing new and exciting things. For that reason, traveling with my partner is now one of my favorite things to do for exploration and self-care.
Reflection & Relaxation:
My final tip for using travel as a means of exploration and self-care is actually to relax on the trip you are going on.
In this day and age, I think that is very easy to get lost in getting the best pictures for your Instagram page. When we do that, we forget that we are actually on a vacation. By taking the time to relax on your trip, you allow your mind to wander and distance itself from the world around you while also seeing the various attractions of the country you may be in at the time. I think by doing this, you will actually have more fun and build lasting memories for yourself in the long run.
Travel is an extremely important part of being human. The ability to experience and interact with people from a culture different than your own is something to be treasured. When you combine this with the aforementioned tips for self-care one is allowed the opportunity to not only take care of themselves mentally and physically but also relax and enjoy one of the best parts of being alive.
