Be it in your city or another nearby, be it in your country or in another one, everyone need apps that help with directions. Sometimes those apps help for you to know which bus, train or subway to take. Other times it helps you to know the way by car or other transportation. However, one thing is a fact: everyone needs those apps every now and then. In Korea this would not be different. However, if you are coming from the western area of the globe, you might not know that the conventional Google map and Waze may not help you here. In South Korea there are other companies that make your life easier such as Kakao and Naver.
In this post I will be showing you some of the apps that you NEED to survive here in Korea!!
Kakao Map
This is an App that I myself use the most. Not only it has a lot more localizations and features than other apps, but it also has a really intuitive interface, which means is really easy to use. Be aware that for using this app you donโt need to know Korean, since the app can be used in English. In that app you are able to add favorites and divide into different folders so that you organize the places you want to go better! It is an amazing app for planning your trip!
This is another really well known and used here in South Korea. I would even dare to say it is the most used navigation map. The naver map has a really nice review feature and since is the most used navigation map, most places have a complete review full of pictures and information of the place. There are also costumers reviews and in places like restaurants they also put on the Menu and prices information. I believe this app has really good points but the only flaw is that the app can only be used in Korean. That means unless you are good at deducing what you need, reading at least the Korean alphabet and understanding some key words, it will be hard for you to use the app.
Kakao Metro
Yes. This is from them same company that created Kakao map. This was one of the first apps I downloaded on my phone and I may say that it really helps! The Kakao Metro gives you the whole Subway lines and helps finding not only your current location but also where you need to go in just a few minutes. Itโs really easy to use and extremely helpful! It is also important to say that on the app you can also report and try to find something you might have lost on the subways or subway stations.
Kakao Bus
And once again we have a Kakao Corporation App! As you can imagine the Kakako Corporation is reeeeeally big and there is a reason for that: they have a lot of well done services and those apps are some of them. This time we have kakao bus. An app that helps you find out whether the bus you need is coming soon or not, departure time and even keep up with the rote. I totally recommend you to use this app specially if you are not used to taking buses. It will help you to find your way and not get in the wrong bus. I myself use it a lot!
The best feature of this app in my opinion is that the app can notify you when your usual bus is coming! Since I live in the countryside and there is not many buses to come on my bus stop (one bus only to be more precise) I always use this alarm in case I need to go out after classes!
Kakao T
The Kakao T is an app that will hellp you with calling for a taxi and even buying tickets for train for example. It is really complete and helped me a lot since I arrived here. Itโs also possible to check out the schedule of the trains and the prices. It is worth mentioning beforehand though, that the kakao T is in english only in certain feature, which means if you want to access some items you might need to translate these such as to take the train tickets. Basically this is the best app you will find in korea for taxis, and of course there are others but this one is the most practical and intuitive between them.
