Summer is coming and as many locals, the number 1 destination is the one and only Jeju Island. However, as you start planning it might be a little confusing on which side of the island to land on. In this article, i will be recommending you to stay around Hamdeok beach. Keep on reading to know why.

About Jeju Island

Located on the southwest of the Korean Peninsula, it is the largest island of Korea. The island is one of the most relaxing vacation spots found in Korea thanks to its unique local atmosphere and beautiful natural environment.

UNESCO world heritage site

The island also features UNESCO world heritage sites which makes it also ideal for sightseeing. The volcanic lava tubes that make up nearly 10% of the island’s area are a designated UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff ConeManjanggul Lava Tube, and Hallasan National Park are must-see sights. Additional attractions include forests, waterfalls, and volcanic cones. With so many beautiful things to see, it can be hard to know where you should plan your trip.

Beaches in Jeju Island

If you’re planning to spend the summer in Jeju Island, it has over eleven beaches, which means visitors to the island have a wide selection to choose from.

From sunbathing to swimming and sandcastles to surfing, a day by the sea is one of the true highlights of summer. There’s the bright white sand and turquoise seas found at Hyeopjae and Hamdeok. These pristine strips of coast are popular spots for relaxing. Families love these beaches due to the calm and shallow seas that children can play in. For something a bit more dramatic, head to the golden sand and steep cliffs of Jungmun Saekdal Beach. Here, tourists mingle with locals and surfers alike at one of the island’s most popular spots. Try out Hwasun or Hamo Beach for other golden shore adventures.

Alternatively, for a uniquely Jeju experience, visit the dark-black sands of Samyang Beach. This strip of the Jeju coastline was created from volcanic rock. In this article, i will be talking more about Hamdeok Beach which i went to and highly recommend.

Hamdeok Beach

Hamdeok Beach is located on the eastern side of Jeju-si and is a short bus journey from Jeju City. Thus, it is convenient for visitors as it is not far from the bus stop.

Hamdeok Beach offers pure white sand and turquoise water. Next to the beach is Seoubong Peak, a picturesque volcanic cone that you can walk up. The peak offers spectacular views out over the sand, sea, and surrounding area.

Activities at Hamdeok Beach

Besides its transluscent water, Hamdeok beach also offers a variety of activities to its visitiors. Visitors often enjoy kayaking in Hamdeok’s calm waters or fishing from the rocks at both ends of the beach.

Hamdeok Beach is famous for swimming its safe and shallow water, strolling its soft sandy shores, and collecting shells and snorkeling.

TIP! You can rent parasols from the shops that provide such facilities, including swimwear, floats, goggles, towels, and more beach gears.

Cafes and restaurants at Hamdeok Beach

If you’re feeling like coffee and sweets, worry less, there’s a cafe that sets foot right in the beach which gives it an amazing view!

The cafe is called “Cafe del Moondo” and seems to be the landmark of Hamdeok beach with its strategic position.

The cafe offers a variety of brewtiful drinks and has many baked goods welcoming you. It can be perfect for a brunch by the beach.

Also when it comes to food, you don’t have to worry. This area has plenty of restaurants from fastfood to seafood places.

Getting to Hamdeok Beach

You can either take a bus or taxi to Hamdeok Beach. Below, buses going to the beach are also available.

From Jeju International Airport
Take bus #38 to Hamdeok Beach. You need to find the waiting point as you get out of the airport. Ask someone to point your direction.

Also, you can take any bus for Jeju-si (City) Jungang Rotary area. From the Rotary, cross the road and take bus #10 to Hamdeok Beach.

If you are renting a car, you can park for free at the beach’s parking area.
