The best authentic Moroccan food in Seoul – Casablanca Sandwicherie & Morococo Cafe

If you are a food enthusiast and love to try new food and discover a new culture, you should visit the famous Haebangchon area in Seoul. Haebangchon is a district of Yongsan-gu in Seoul, it is also one of the oldest neighborhoods in central Seoul. It is also known as the neighborhood at the foot of Namsan. The main street of Haebangchon is full of many busy restaurants during the whole day. Casablanca Sandwicherie and Morococo cafe are no different. Both restaurants are owned by the same Moroccan person. If you are looking for authentic Moroccan and Hallal food, Casablanca Sandwicherie and Morococo cafe are the right place to go.

Casablanca Sandwicherie

Casablanca Sandwicherie is a small but very popular restaurant in Haebangchon where you can find some of tastiest Moroccan food in the whole word, you can also find salads, soups and the famous shakshouka. The marinated chicken sandwich, packed with veggies, sauces and golden-fried mashed potatoes (makooda: which is commonly found as a street food in Morocco) is the star of the show. Also, if you follow a pescatarian or plant based diet, Casablanca Sandwicherie has a vegan option for you such as vegan sandwich or shakshouka.

Casablanca sandwicherie- Chicken sandwich

A good sandwich is hard to come by in Seoul. If you visit Casablanca Sandwicherie, expect to find filling sandwiches priced reasonably at 8,000 won. This is a good deal considering the fact that the restaurant is located in a famous touristic area in Seoul. The popularity of the restaurant has increased mainly by word of mouth and quality of food. Hence in 2020, the restaurant won the prize of  top 1% best sandwich shops in the world by Trip advisor. This is why Casablanca Sandwicherie is always busy.

Finally, if you want to visit take into consideration that Casablanca Sandwicherie is open from 12 pm to 9pm and it is usually busy during the evenings and the weekends.

PS keep in mind that it is closed on Mondays.

Morococo cafe

Owned by the same person, Morococo Cafe has an entirely different menu than Casablanca Sandwicherie. As soon as you enter the restaurant the vibes and the beautiful colors take you right away to Morocco. Also, if you want to explore and try more authentic Moroccan food then you are in the right place. The restaurant has a variety of dishes to try. If you know Morocco, you might already be familiar with the renowned Tagine dish.

Morococo Cafe has both Kefta Tagine with a delicious tomato sauce and bread, and the chicken with preserved lemon and olives Tagine which are equally delicious. Another famous authentic Moroccan dish you can try is the lamb shank with caramelized plums and toasted almonds. Morococo Cafe is also known for its Morocco over rice dish, which comes in four options; vegan, chicken, shrimp and lamb. Besides If you are a vegan, Morococo cafe got your back, as it also has Chermoula Carrot salad. Which I personally recommend you to try it as a light appetizer.

Last but not least, if you visit Morococo Cafe you must try the iconic Moroccan mint tea! What is a trip to Morocco without trying this famous drink? Mint tea is a symbol of national and Moroccan identity. Served several times throughout the day, with or without food, the tea is made with green tea, spearmint leaves and sugar.

Morococo Cafe is open from 12 to 10pm and they have a break from 3-5pm. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
