If you have been living in Korea, you might be fully aware that Koreans LOVE their Starbucks coffee – and merch. They take e-frequency events so seriously that when a new line comes out, not only does it sells out very quickly, but even on second-hand selling apps it will be difficult to come across some of the merchandise because of its high demand.
Past e-Frequency Events
Going back to summer 2021, a lantern and a summer drink cooler came out. Both normally would retail for 30,000 to 35,000won. People bought an extraordinary amount of drinks and claimed their points several times a week in order to stockpile the items. They were resold for 50,000 Won, some even 80,000 Won and they were selling like hotcakes.
Starbucks in Korea has a point/reward system that allows customers to get rewards during event periods in spring, Christmas, and summer. For every drink you order, if you have a membership (an account on their app which is only in Korean) you start accumulating attendance points. So next time a barista asks you “멤어십 포인트 있으세요?” (Do you have membership points?) Show them your app-generated barcode.
Leading Up to the Holidays
One of the coolest seasons is naturally October, not saying this because I was born in October, which I am also saying, but with its fall-themed line, Starbucks always seems to get sold out as soon as it comes out. From cute mugs with cats with hats, and ghosts to even a pumpkin light-up garden.
This fall line also includes drinks, cakes, and pastries like madeleines and muffins that only come out this time of year, so if you are a fan of those, you better hurry up before they are out of stock, now being November, chances are that most places will have them sold out by now.
With their hit drink being the Pumpkin Spice Latte, a newer addition to the Korean menu, this holiday season is set to be a great one.
When Can We Expect an Announcement
Last year, Starbucks Korea announced its Christmas e-Frequency on October 22. The year before that, it was announced on November 12. And so, it’s only a matter of time before this season’s rewards are announced.
All in all, regardless of their prices, Starbucks will always remain first place in Koreans’ hearts and will always have astonishing popularity here.
