There are certain places in Seoul, where you can enjoy beautiful flowers and plants free of charge (almost) every day and in all seasons. Do you know these places? I don’t mean any parks or botanical gardens, but the wholesale flower markets.
Among these colorful bright blooms and their wonderful fragrances of so many kinds, you will be overwhelm. I always have a blast when I come to the flower markets, not only to have a look, but also to purchase some home to refresh my home. It’s real paradise for floral enthusiasts in Seoul.
I’m sure you have heard and been to Namdaemun. But do you know that the wholesale flower market is located there as well?
Namdaemun flower market is neat and quieter, compared to other wholesale markets. Along small alleys, around 20 stores offer many kinds of pretty fresh flowers for relatively low price. An ideal place to visit and buy flowers quickly if you don’t have much time, or if you go there anyway for other household and clothes.
Beside the all-season blossoms, such as roses, various seasonal flowers, for example tulip in spring, lilies in summer, anemones in fall and chrysanthemum in winter, are available in all markets.
Looking for a gift? You can buy a freshly made bouquet or basket with mixed fresh flowers as well.
Besides, in the same area, few shops also sell dry flowers, plants and other decorative items.
The Express bus terminal is quite well-known among travelers because many long-distance busses depart from here. Surprisingly, it’s also the location of a big wholesale flower market, which is on the 3rd floor.
The market in the Express Bus Terminal is about 3-4 times as big as the one in Namdaemun and contains two main parts on the same floor. One part sells only fresh cut flowers, while the other offers plants, artificial and dry flowers, as well as many decorative items. Of course, the selections are much larger than in Namdaemun and it’s also busier.
It depends on what you are looking for, but usually I can spend about 2-3 hours to browse around this market.
The in the south located wholesale flower market of Yangjae is the biggest one in Seoul. The market spreads across a huge area with many different glasshouses and buildings that focus on various themes.
More information can be found on Yangjae flower city’s homepage (only in Korean).
Since Yangjae market is huge, you can easily spend a whole day there. Start with the fresh cut flower area in the morning, because it will be closed at 1 pm, then continue visiting green houses and decoration halls. In general, everything that is related to plants, flowers and seeds can be purchased here.
It’s a real paradise for plants and floral enthusiast. No matter what kind you are looking for, you will find it for sure in Yangjae flower city.
The price at Yangjae is even a bit cheaper than in other flower markets.
If you are interested in flower arranging classes, you can attend classes in the event center. I could join a class organized by the Itaewon Global Village Center two years ago and become more confident with my arranging skills now 🙃.
Wishing you a great time visiting the markets!
