Pizza Express located in Seoul’s Apgujeong neighborhood is an amazing pizza place for New York-style pizza. If you know anything about Korean pizza, you know how hard it is to find a genuine slice of western-style pizza. Corn, sweet potato, and cream cheese are all toppings that frequently make a surprise appearance. There is not of that here – this is the real deal. Thin crust pizza topped with some genuine tomato sauce and cheese, plus the toppings you actually choose is what you will find at Pizza Express.
Pizza Express: First Impressions
Pizza Express is not only an affordable place with genuine western pizza but also a cute restaurant as far as interior design. Their walls are plastered with artwork, stickers, signs, and drawings. Even by the entrance, although very discreet, a cute pizza neon sign can be seen.

When I entered the restaurant, I noticed distinct skater vibes paired with the essence of an 80’s arcade. There are skateboards hanging on the wall and glowing neon signs with fun, artistic shapes. The place looks like the kind of place that could be featured as a set on Stranger Things.
The Menu
As I noticed with experience and time, here in South Korea it is a little tricky to find pizza places that serve up a slice that matches my tastes. Pizza tends to lean sweet and toppings create some interesting flavor combinations. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t get used to it. This is the one place where you can get a genuine western slice without going bankrupt.

Pizza Express was on an episode of MBC’s “Hangout with Yoo”, or 놀면뭐하니. In the episode, Yoo Jae-Seok and Jessi ate at the restaurant. Jessi admitted that it was one of her favorite pizza places in Korea. As someone who grew up in the US state of New Jersey, just a short distance from New York, it undoubtedly gave her a little taste of home.
