On the first Saturday of the month from May to September, you can join the biggest party in South Korea for free at Surfyy Beach! Donโt miss Hajodaze YangYang and escape the summer heat.
Escape to Surfyy Beach
IF YOU ARE NEW TO LIVING IN KOREA, THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS IS THAT IT is EXTREMELY HOT (all caps for a reason). With temperatures ranging from 27-34 degrees Celsius(80-93 degrees Fahrenheit), if the heat doesnโt kill you, then the humidity definitely will.
So, after hearing this, you might be thinking about what you can do for fun in this ungodly weather? If so, then I have just the place for you. The destination is in the popular Gangwon-do region at the very scenic Surfyy Beach in YangYang
Transportation to Gangwondo & Surfyy Beach
Gangwon-do is located in the northeast area of South Korea and is 221km away from Daejeon(where I live) but is easily reached by bus. If you live in Seoul, it is easier to reach as you can take the KTX straight to Gangneung.
However, to reach Yangyang, you will still have to take a bus for a little over an hour. Once you arrive in Yangyang, you can easily grab a taxi right outside the terminal. The taxi ride to the beach should take around 20-25 minutes depending on traffic.
Surfyy Beach
One of the first things that you will notice when you arrive at Surfyy Beach is that it is a beach that is exclusively for surfers.
However, lots of foreigners and Koreans love to come by and enjoy the waves, vibes, and the corona beer from the nearby Surfyy Beach Bar. When I visited recently, it was the second time that I had been to this beach, but the contrast was truly remarkable.
The first time that I visited it was during the day. The beach was full of people sipping beer, learning to surf, and enjoying life. However, the second time that I went it was at night. It was there that the subject of this article sprang into being.
The event that my friends and I attended was called the Hajodaze YangYang. It is a beach party held at night on the first Saturday of each month starting in May and ending in September. This party brings together a large number of people to dance, listen to music, and enjoy the Korean summer. Do you want to know the best part about this party though? Itโs free! Thatโs right. Visitors donโt have to pay anything to enter the beach for the party.

The Downside of Hajodaze YangYang
The only negative that I experienced while visiting Surfyy Beach during this rave was actually when I was trying to leave. Since this beach is so far from the bus terminal, you will inevitably have to hail a taxi. The problem with this is the later you leave, the harder it is to find a taxi.
I walked around trying to get a taxi for about an hour and a half before I was able to get one. However, the memories made it all worthwhile and leaves one with a story to tell in the future.
Overall, I would highly recommend the journey to YangYang for this particular party even with the late-night taxi complications. So, grab your sunhat, and Hawaiian shirt, then head over to the beach to take a break from the ungodly Korean heat while enjoying a nice corona beer.
Final Thoughts on Hajodaze YangYang
My friends and I had a great time. Despite the transportation complications, I recommend everyone go. If youโre able to plan more in advance, I recommend booking a room nearby and enjoying the entire weekend at Surfyy Beach. I hope you enjoy your trip to YangYang!
