A Park with Some Important Gems
It might look like any other park when you reach, but do not underestimate it! As it is home of some important gems from Ganggyeong and Nonsan city. So as home of the most beautiful sceneries that even fairies can fall in love with. Since you can get the best views of Ganggyeong. While the gentle Geumgang River flows and the cold breeze brushes your hair on top of the hill.
Without further ado, let us introduce you the best spots of this park!
Highlights of Ongnyeobong Park
The best way to reach Ongnyeobong Park is through Ongneyobong village, for sure. As it is a picturesque neighborhood where you can see the contrast of the past and the present of Ganggyeong. In each of its alleys, you can in fact learn about the local culture. And the modern history, of course!
There are some mural streets as any other important villages. Which makes you feel welcomed. But among these, the most popular spot is the sunflower mural. As the architecture of that building, the red bricks and its curved shape, makes it attractive to the eye. And blends perfectly to the old western-style buildings that you might have seen through the modern history streets.
Another reason to why it is a good idea to come from this place, is that you will be able to enjoy some amazing views of Ganggyeong as you walk. You can even see some of the important buildings stand out from others!
The First Church Site of the Korea Baptist Convention
The main reason to why a lot of people visit this park, is surely due to Ganggyeong Baptist Church. Known as the first church site of the Korea Baptist Convention.
Not only due to its traditional structure, but also because of its history. Since it was the first ‘ㄱ’-shaped church in the southern area of Han River. And the third one after Dongdaemun Church (1892) and Sorae Church (1895).
This place is open to the public. Which means that anyone can just enter and relax while laying down in one of its rooms. Actually, when I went there was a chorus practicing inside. And of course, tons of visitors that wanted to see this amazing site in real life.
In case you want to know more about this place, we have prepared the next article for you!
Just beside the Church site, there is a small hill. Where a korean pavilion is located. One of the most liked places to rest! At least that is the impression that it gave me. Since I always see people hanging out in these type of Korean pavilions.
On the contrary, some people just come to take a great photo of the area. As you can get some great views from there!
Bongsu (烽燧) was a ancient communication system that was used whenever something big happened to the country. Therefore, a Bongsudae (烽燧臺) ㅡ installed in a high mountain ㅡ was used to deliver urgent news with the use of smoke and fire. If there was an emergency, smoke would be used during day time. And fire during night time.
Ongnyeobong Park still preserves its Bongsudae. Letting us see a piece of history in the middle of a modern park. It was impressive for me to see how people would just rest around it. It seems that it is the favorite spot of many!
A Breathtaking View of Geumgang River
It is specifically this part of the park the one that is considered as one of the best scenic spots in Nonsan. And no wonder why! You get a broad view of Geumgang River and the nature that surrounds it. But what makes it even better, is that Nonsan can be seen at one glance. So as Buyeo and Iksan. As they spread out like a panorama.
It is even said that during a bright full moon day, the fairies would come from heaven to enjoy the beauty of this scenery. And have fun bathing in the clear river. Adding a magical view to this place.
One of the most popular photo spots are the benches that are below the tree of love (사랑나무). So make sure to take a picture to have a memory from this amazing park!
Address: Bukok-ri, Ganggyeong-eup, Nonsan-si, Chungcheongnam-do Website
From Nonsan Station, you can take bus no. 101. And wait for 19 stops. To then get off at ‘강변타운’. From there I would advise you to use a map. It is actually only 12 minutes away on foot, but can be confusing as it is a neighborhood.
