Ramyeon is the Korean version of instant Japanese ramen. In Japan, ramen can be instant or fresh, but in Korea ramyeon is always instant. A package of ramyeon comes with instructions on how to cook it. However, I find my way of cooking is much better and also sometimes I use some simple fresh ingredients to make it more delicious.
The first time I tried it, I couldn’t believe how tasty it was. How simple it was to make and how curly the noodles were! Korean noodles were all straight, so the shape of ramyeon noodles was unique. Over time I also came to realize that ramyeon was really junk food similarly to a bag of chips.
One of the important tips to cook instant ramyeon is the timing. The noodles shouldn’t be overcooked. When you start eating the ramyeon, the noodles will be curly and a little firm. But 3 or 4 bites later they will cook in the broth a little more and soften up to the perfect consistency. So don’t let them cook too long and let them get mushy before you start eating!
List of My Favorite Korean Ramyeon
Paldo Kimchi Lid Ramyeon (110g):
Paldo Kimchi Ramyeon is very close to my heart because this is My first ever Korean ramyeon ever. This ramyeon combines the taste of kimchi which is the traditional Korean pickle and some veggies like mushrooms and cabbage. This ramyeon comes with a removable lid which is later used to cover the ramyeon while it is cooking. There are 2 packets inside the ramyeon box.
One contains the dried kimchi and veggies and the other contains the spices for the flavor. I like to open both the packets and add their contents into the box and then add hot water into it until the noodles are completely immersed to make a broth. I allow the noodles to cook in the hot water and steam for about 3-4 minutes after covering with the removable lid. After the cooking time, just mix the noodles until they are evenly spread into the broth and then proceed to eat this tasty treat!
Ottogi Sesame Ramyeon (105g):
The Ottogi Sesame Ramyeon is also a soupy kind. This ramyeon contains genuine sesame oil and a dehydrated egg block serving rich flavor of roasted sesame. The aroma of the sesame oil is just so alluring and gets me drooling all over.
The preparation method for this is also pretty much the same. There are 3 packets in this ramyeon box. The sesame oil, the dehydrated egg brick and the spices mix. Just put in the ingredients and add hot water and cover up the box using the already present cover. After 4-5 minutes, just mix it thoroughly using the chopsticks and enjoy.
Samyang Carbonara (105g):
The samyang carbonara ramyeon is chicken flavored spicy ramyeon. It is a dry-sauce based ramyeon and has an additional cheese packet along the sauce. It is my one of the most favorite snack to ever have when I am kind of bored of the normal eating routine.
This ramyeon is made by cooking the noodles in hot water in the cup for 4-5 minutes. The water is then drained out after the noodles start to get soft. Add the sauce after it and mix the noodles so that the sauce is evenly spread. Then after this, the cheese powder is added to make the carbonara flavor supreme.
Remarks
I hope you do try these ramyeon once at least and like them too!
