Korea has a wide range of accommodations to offer for visitors to stay overnight. Five star hotels and hostels, guesthouses and pensions are available to book via major travel apps including Airbnb, Yanolja, Agoda, Expedia etc. But there is a place in Korea where you can find the combination of tradition and modernity in accommodation. This will really help you to dive into the current modern interior trends of Korea while witnessing the ancient architecture as well.
Specifically, this time I want to introduce you very unique hotel called “Mouryub” located in Hanok village of Jeonju city, Jeolla province.

Interior & Design
First of all, when you will come to Mouryub or any other hanok hotel you will have a feeling that you are entering to a yangban’s or “scholar-gentry” house from the Korean dramas. Mouryub, built in 1970’s, inherits the tradition of an original hanok style but at the same time it carries a modern interpretation to complete the demand of young people for something fabulous.

It was designed by emphasizing the roof tiles, wooden structures and thin rafters of a low and simple hanok. The pillars of the wooden structure of the hanok have the motif of stepping stones, and the pillars are covered with granite by about 80 centimeters to complete the pillars with design elements.

The interior walls are white and the floor is a quiet gray square porcelain tile, arranged in harmony with the interior wood color of granite and mahogany. In the interior of a traditional hanok, modern interior elements are arranged and reinterpreted as a new Korean style. I could recognize this because when I stayed in a modern hotels in Seoul they also had similar interior design.

Moreover, the garden area finished with basalt stone and at the centre you find huge pool which will provide a cool breath during the hot summer days.
Kitchen & Beds
Mouryub has very beautiful and cozy kitchen with all supplements you need for the basic stay in the hotel. The kitchen is one of my favorite corners here, as it has huge windows which shows you the water falling to the pool from waterfall and amazing view to the garden. You can organize a tea ceremony with complemented natural tea from the hotel owner and enjoy the view of the garden making your mind peaceful and relax your body.
The kitchen equipped with all modern utensils and electronic appliances which you cannot find in the chain hotels. If you want to prepare some food while you travel it is easy with a big kitchen. Also, there is a filtered water as well. I like this Korean service attitude where you can find a free water filtering system in the most places including universities, hotels, guesthouses, dormitories.

Another my favorite corner in Mouryub was the bedroom with its huge and queen size beds from Simmons brand. The owner was emphasizing that we will enjoy our sleep on these mattresses. And he was right. All of us fall asleep very quickly and the mattresses were cushy and soft. Notably, most of the hanok hotels provide floor beds while this style of hanok hotels have mattress beds.

You can also enjoy and watch your favorite movies and TV shows in 55 inch TV. It has Netflix in it and internet as well. TV’s design is also unique and it is aligned with the interior of the hotel.

The bathroom is has a bathtub and shower as well. The interior is also modern and stylish, everything made from premium materials and most important is it is very clean.

Convenient location
Located up in Hanok village, Mouryub provides its guests an exclusive treat with modern amenities. You can take a walk around the village, enjoy the local food and watch the sunset from the Namcheongyo bridge.
