Gunsan is a city that it is known for being rich in history. In other words, it is a place in which a lot of important historic events happened. The main reason to why you are able to find some places that keep their traditional design. Just like the old times. For example, there is Miz Coffee, a japanese style cafe in Gunsan that has become a major tourist spot. And which we are about to introduce you!
As we mentioned before, a lot of sites keep their architecture just like it was in the past. Because of that, you feel that you are back in time when you are walking along these. No wonder why the name of this area is โTime Travelโ.
Miz Coffee is one of these. Since it keeps its japanese design. Making you feel as if you were at that period of time.
Now, we are about to introduce you to this cafe that you might want to visit!
A cafe with history
Being in a historic city, it is not a surprise that you come across with buildings that had a role during Japanese colonial period. In fact, this region served as a base for exploitation of rice. And was dominated by Japanese trade companies and commercial interests.
This building was constructed in the 1930s, and it was a trading company. Which was relocated and renovated to the front of the Museum of Modern History in 2012. Now serving as a cafe and a modern literature space. That keeps its traditional japanese design even in the modern era.
Now, we will introduce you to this Japanese style cafe in Gunsan: Miz Coffee. Where you will not only be able to enjoy a delicious coffee in a cozy tatami, but also learn more about the history of the city.

From smoothies to coffee, you can find vast of options to drink. And even accompany your drink with any of the tasty dessert they sell. Such as cakes, and fruits!
Be prepared to take a lot of time to decide what to order. Because there are many options. And I assure you, that all of them seem to be mouthwatering.
Review
Atmosphere
First floor
In the first floor is where you order. And once you do it, they will give you a bell that sounds when your food is ready. So you can go and grab it.
Although the most attractive spot of this cafe is the second floor, the first floor is as beautiful as the other one. And this is because it is really well designed.
The warm lights turn it into a cozy place during the night. While during the day, it still looks nice due to the sun light.
In general, the thing I liked the most about this cafe is that you can in fact learn about the history of Gunsan. Since they have many framed pictures that show how the city looked back then. And they have paintings as well.
It is a great idea to visit this cafe. In case you do not know where else you can go in Gunsan. Because the old pictures, will give you an idea of where to travel to know more about the history of this city.
Due to this, I was able to find some other spots that I did not have in my bucket list. Since some of these, are not even considered as a tourist place. And consequently, are not marked in the map.
Second floor
Of course, this was my favorite part of this cafe! And the main reason to why it is visited by a lot of travelers. Because you will be able to go back in time with its japanese interior design.
It is important to mention, that you must remove your shoes.
There is some times where people leave their flip flops on the floor. So someone can get confused and think that you must wear them to go upside. But no, you should not wear anything. Only your socks.
Reading area
If you love reading, then this area is for you! Since it is filled with books. Of course, most of them in korean. It feels awesome to read them sitting down on the tatami while having a cup of tea. Does not it feel kind of dreamy?
As expected, this area tends to have a lot of customers. So consider yourself lucky if you find it empty just as I did!
Learn about history in every hallway
As I mentioned before, you will be able to see how Gunsan looked in the old days. Through the pictures they have in their walls. And also, their paintings.
Tatami rooms
You will be able to enjoy your food while sitting down in a traditional Japanese tatami. Which makes this place unique. And of course, gives a different vibe to any other franchise cafe.
They have three rooms like this. And no matter which one you choose, you will have a great a nice view of the architecture.
It is visually satisfying when you sit in one room, and when you look around, you see the other sliding doors open. Because it gives deepness to the place. And looks neat.
Japanese decorations
The decorations give a lively look to these rooms. You can compare when you go to the room in where there is none. It looks kind of sad in comparison to those who have cherry blossoms and paintings.
Restroom
When I first saw the entrance to the restroom, I wanted to take a picture of myself standing. Until I realized what this place was for. And this is because I think the painting of the koi fishes is really pretty. Plus the design of the walls.
A room to make a wish!
As its name give the hint, in this room you can scribble as much as you want!
It is a room where you can write a wish. Or just speak your mind.
There are some creative people that take advantage of this to make nice drawings.
From the window, you can see Jangmi Gallery. An art gallery that it is considered as a must visit according to the time travel course.

Drinks
I only ordered a caramel frappรฉ. Which I must say, it was perfect. Because it was not as sweet as some other places. It was on point. I enjoyed drinking it. Plus they give you a small spoon in case you want to eat the whipped cream like that.
