This mint cafe located in the heart of Hongdae is bound to either be the only cafe in your personal hellscape, or a dream come true. Hongdae is a hub for arts, culture, and entertainment, with a thriving indie music scene and numerous street performances, and art exhibitions. But what is of interest to us today, is the food scene, home to numerous restaurants, bars, and cafés. I would like to introduce you to a controversial place that is catching everyone’s eye on Instagram here in Seoul: Mint Heim.

This dainty little cafe in the heart of Hongdae has its quarter in the shell of what was once a large typical Korean home. As the names imply, the distinctiveness of this cafe lies in its minty fresh theme.
The interior is embellished in a white and mint green color scheme, with mint green chairs and painted mint leaves on the walls. Overall, it gives off a fresh spring vibe, perfect for the upcoming season, don’t you agree?

This mint cafe has an atypical and attractive decor. However, the menu is not without its own special features.
At Mint Heim, mint is not only a color covering the place. EVERYTHING is mint. They have everything to satisfy your minty fresh cravings, from cakes and tarts to cookies and tiramisu. Even if it doesn’t look mint – it definitely is.
Mint Oreo Cheesecake
One popular item is their Mint Oreo Cheesecake, which has passed the taste test of many a mint addict. The stuffing is the ideal thickness and creaminess. A lovely prevalent mint kick along with the quintessential “cheesecake” taste will grace your mouth once you take a bite. Adding to that, generous pieces of Oreo are in the filling, which gives it a distinguished cookie flavor. The dessert is wrapped up with a pile of thick Oreo pieces and Oreo crumbles are piled on top.
It’s not easy to balance three distinct flavors in one dessert, but they do it brilliantly. On the list of delicacies proposed by this adorable mint cafe. The oreo cookie has quite a nice crust and is crumbly, while still being able to hold form.

If you are more of a tart person, you won’t be deceived as their menu features a pretty good mint chocolate tart. The dessert consists of a solid, yet perfectly crumbly chocolate crust which has a quite similar flavor that can be compared to a brownie or a fudgy chocolate muffin.
Moving forward to the composition of the dessert, the curst is coated with rich chocolate ganache and topped with fluffy whipped cream enriched with mint chips which make every bite more interesting gustatory speaking. The overall taste is quite minty and leaves a very fresh mouthfeel. In my humble opinion, I think the balance of sweetness is perfect as I don’t fancy sweets too much. However, if you like sweet desserts, pair it with a drink and the balance will be on point.

Mint Latte
When it comes to drinks, I think the mint latte is always a safe bet. If you don’t know where to start, start with this. I have to concede, the three-tiered gradation of tan, white, and green is beautiful and looks great on Instagram. However, the hot version isn’t as remarkable. But, it does give you more mint flavor that seems to be missing in the iced version.
Chiki Chaka Choco Choco Heimchino
For non-caffeinated drinks, their 치키차카초코초코쵸 하임치노 (Chiki Chaka Choco Choco Heimchino) is quite delicious. The drink consists of a blended chocolate chip drink topped with light mint green whipped cream and garnished with rainbow sprinkles and crowned with an Andes mint.
The drink itself tastes a bit like a chocolate chip cookie, which suits my palette as I’m not a big coffee lover! It’s also very colorful and aesthetically pleasing. We are all looking for a good Instagram shot, aren’t we?
