Seoul trendsetters prefer vintage parts, not just for their individuality, but also for their sometimes superior efficiency, craftsmanship, and low environmental effect, a mitigating factor for conscientious shopaholics. Despite fashion’s nostalgia tendency, old is the new new now. Here are some of the top locations in Seoul to go antique shopping, from one lover of antique to another.
Bell and Nouveau
Bell and nouveau If you are searching for something more vintage, there is a store called belle and nouveau in Gangnam area. The store has a lot of vintage designer purses and accessories from luxury brands like Chanel, Dior, Fendi and more with good prices.
Dongmyo flea market
A local favorite and model haunt, where Koreans and fashion bloggers literally rub shoulders as they dig through tiny hills of clothes unceremoniously stacked on plastic sheets, is the Dongmyo flea market. Stalls peddling assorted antiques and electronic goods can also be found in the alleys, apart from clothes. It’s a hard work to search in these piles of cloths, but it is still satisfying when you find unique and luxury clothings from high end brands with a very good price. This market has a lot of vintage stores outlets available for those who would rather peruse items that have been washed and pressed beforehand.
Seoul’s epicentre of indie youth culture is Hongdae. Students and buskers merryly intermingle; along the bright light streets, fortune-tellers and antique shops jostle for attention. Vintage Santa is one of the first vintage shops you can see across the shopping street of Hongdae and one of the most well-known. A lot of collared shirts are in stock, a la Ralph Lauren, and designer gems like Burberry and supreme.
