Legend of the Blue Sea Kdrama Filming Locations in Seoul

Are you a fan of the Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun tandem at Korean drama “Legend of the Blue Sea”? This drama was inspired by a legend in the Joseon era about a fisherman who captures and releases a mermaid. The series depicts the love story of a con-artist Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min-ho) and a mermaid Shim Cheong (Jun Ji-hyun) who travels across the ocean to find him and ended up in Seoul.

So here is a list of Legend of the Blue Sea filming locations in Seoul that you can easily visit:

Aqua Planet 63 Square

The Acqua Planet 63 Square was featued in the 3rd episode of Legend of the Blue Sea. It is where Shim Cheong goes to swim at the acquarium and meet Heo Joon-jae on the next espisode. Acqua Planet 65 is actually part of 63 Building and is the first ever public aquarium in Korea. This building also used to be the tallest building in the country and it is located close to Yeouido Hangang Park. Read more about 63 Building here.

Heo Joon-jae’s House

This house appears as Heo Joon-jae’s in the series. But actually, this is not a real house, in reality it is Gallery 487. Only its exterior was featured in some of the scenes because the interiro part of the house was filmed in another guesthouse in Seoul. Moreover, this gallery is located near Myeongdong and just few walks away from N Seoul Tower cable car station.

National Palace Museum of Korea

The National Palace Museum of Korea was also featured in Legend of the Blue Sea as the work place of Cha Si-Ah (Shin Hye-Sun). She brings Heo Joon-Jae there to show him a portrait of Dam Ryung who looks like him. This museum opened in 1992 and it displays relics from the Joseon dynasty. It is located inside Gyeongbokgung Palace – the main palace of that era.

N Seoul Tower

As mentioned, Heo Joon-jae’s House is actually near the N Seoul Tower, also known as Namsan Seoul Tower. In the episodes 5 and 6 of the series, Heo Joon-jae waits here during the first snow fall for Sim Cheong. N Seoul Tower is a well-known filming location for other several Kdramas such as Boys Over Flowers, Rooftop Prince and many more. It has become Seoul’s landmark which stands tall at 236 meters and the city’s second highest point. The tower was built in 1971 and is Korea’s first general radio wave tower, providing TV and radio broadcasting in Seoul. Learn more about N Seoul Tower here.

Shinsegae Department Store

The iconic mall shopping scene at Legend of the Blue Sea episode 9 was filmed at Shinsegae Department Store in Myeongdong. Sim Cheong goes back here to return the clothes and take a refundin episode 11. This branch of Shinsegae is actually the oldest department store in Korea.

Wonhyo Bridge

And lastly, one of the most iconic is the scene from this drama is the reunion of “My Sassy Girl” lead stars Cha Tae-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun at Wonhyo bridge in episode 4. This bridge is a part of the Yeouido Hangang Park. It crosses the Han River and connects the districts of Yongsan-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu. It is just few walks from Eland Cruise docking area.
