Do you want to learn how to cook Korean dishes? Me too!! Although Youtube and the internet are good places to get easy recipes and ideas. I prefer taking classes with someone who can guide me step by step. Luckily I have found some places located in Busan that offer cooking classes for little to no cost!
Busan Cooking Class
Under the guidance of a local chef, you will be able to learn about Busanโs culture through an amazing food journey. You will learn all about the story of the food while making it and โ of course, get to enjoy the food at the end of the class. Learning and food, nothing gets better than that!
Not only will you get to taste the food you made, but you will also get the chance to pair it with local rice wine. And, at the end, there is a tea ceremony before you leave!
What else to expect
Busan Cooking Class is a member of the Tourism Business Venture branch of the Korean Tourism Organization. If you are here as a visitor, are a local in Busan, and would like to learn more about Korean restaurants, do not be afraid to ask them for recommendations! They will gladly tell you all the best places. Plus, if you have dietary restrictions, are vegan, or only eat Halal food, they are a great resource.
If you are not that good with the Korean language, do not worry!! They also offer the services in English, you can check more on their website by Clicking Here.
They offer at least one cooking class per day and often have online classes as well.
Korean Food Promotion Institute (Hansik)
This one is for every resident living in Korea, not only Busan. As the name states, it is an institute dedicated to promoting Korean cuisine. They offer online classes that are sometimes free and other times require a small payment. Once you join a class, the ingredients will be delivered to your doorstep and a link for the class will be provided, as well as the recipe on paper.
I have had two different experiences taking classes with them. The first was an online-live class for the making of traditional desserts. It was a free class and all the required ingredients were delivered to my place.
But they also have another type of class that I experienced during my second class. Through my university, I was given a box with instructions and some of the ingredients. I had two boxes, one for Dakgalbi and another for Doenjangjjigae. The only thing missing from the kits were the meat and fresh vegetables. I had to buy the fresh ingredients to complete the recipe.ย
What else to expect
They donโt just provide online classes. Additionally, Hansik has a magazine about Korean Food and Korean. They also occasionally host other Korean cultural activities. Sadly, as of right now, their content is mainly in Korean. However, the recipes they send you are in English.
Contests
As I said before, they also have other kinds of activities. If you are not well versed in the kitchen but are a foodie. They recently had a Story Telling Contest, where you could either write or draw about the joy of eating Korean food.ย
They also have had Mukbang contests, where you could submit videos of eating Korean food. And, a food Video Contest to show how you cool a traditional dish you made. Do not miss out on any of their events!! They are fun to both participate in or watch.
