Any mention of K-Beauty is not complete without mentioning face masks. The sheet mask technology happened to be pioneered in Korea – the convenience of which has now travelled all over the world and is used by all manner of skincare brands globally.
Moisture is important to keep skin healthy in the dry, frigid air we get exposed to during wintertime, so I find myself using and buying face masks far more often in this season than any other. Here are a few of my favorites, all available at Olive Young, that I make sure to stock up on everytime I see them on discount. (Pro tip: You’re always going to need them someday, so be sure to stock up ahead always.)
Featuring the most basic type of sheet masks, cosmetic brand Mediheal’s are always a bestseller at Olive Young. They supply quite a large range too, with specialized ingredients in each one that target specific concerns. In mine (and possibly most other consumers’) minds, Mediheal just seems like one of the most trustworthy, hard-to-go-wrong-with brands, that is loved even by the ultra-sensitive due to their gentle, non-irritating ingredients.
The most basic products are the Watermide sheet mask, offering a boost of hydration to the skin, as well as the Teatree one, which works to calm irritated, acne-prone skin quickly without aggravating it further.
Mediheal’s individual mask packs are also one of the cheapest you can get at Olive Young – one pack typically retails for an affordable 1,000won, and can even go as low as 800won on sale. Given all these qualities, it isn’t that surprising that Mediheal masks are known widely as the type of mask packs that everyone keeps on hand for emergency situations – I’d say you can’t go quite wrong with them.
Known for using a variety of natural ingredients in their skincare, Hanyul has long been another contender for public favorite when it comes to fuss-free skincare that can suit anyone. But where Mediheal is more known for mask packs, Hanyul’s reputation is good across their multiple skincare lines, especially the ones made with mugwort and rice. Among their star-studded lineup, their Moonlight Yuja Sleeping Pack in particular has been a favorite of mine for a long time. With a high concentration of Yuja extract in it – no kidding, the mask smells really strongly of the citrus fruit – it leaves skin feeling impossibly soft and smooth the next morning. It’s long been a favorite of many for the almost-immediate, noticeable effect it has on the skin, that keeps it feeling nourished and rejuvenated.
