Mangwon is a district in Seoul that is famous for its pretty cafes. I will continue to explore things to do and things to eat in Mangwon. So this time, I would like to introduce a cafe in Mangwon Area. My friend and I walking around Mangwon Market on the weekend and we discovered a unique cafe called Soseolwon Mangwon (์์ค์ ๋ง์).
Soseolwon Mangwon: The Building
It is unique because the building comes from a typical one-two-room building in South Korea. Perhaps it was a one or two-room building that has been converted into a cafe
For your information, Soseolwon has another branch in the Hongjae Station area, Seoul.
Japanese Vibes of Cafe Design
The โSoseolwon Mangwonโ has 4 floors, consisting of the 1st floor where you can order. Then, floors 2-4 floors have seats. The 4th floor also has a rooftop. Outdoor and indoor spaces are designed well with Japanese vibes.
The exterior of the building gives the ambiance of a Japanese-style house. I thought it was a Japanese Restaurant the first time I entered the place. But after I saw the menu outside, I just realized it was a cafe. Each floor is made as attractive as possible to characterize the feel of Japan. The sitting area on the 2-4th floors consists of wooden chairs and sitting on the floor with tatami.
Japanese Vibe Desserts
Not only does the design of the place have a Japanese feel, but also the food. Going to the 1st floor, which is the counter for ordering, I was amazed because all the desserts were served like Japanese food.
The one that my friend and I ordered is the โfinancierโ (ํ๋ญ์์). This dessert at first glance looks like sushi accompanied by soy sauce and wasabi. The โfinancierโ itself is not sushi but cake. These five cakes are salt vanilla, red bean butter, yellow cheese, matcha, and earl gray fig. Meanwhile, the accompaniments are honey and matcha.
Besides our orders, other desserts you can choose from are castella and pudding. Although we didnโt try it. However, it looked delicious. Castella (์นด์คํ ๋ผ) looks like a tendon or tempura rice bowl. Meanwhile, the pudding (ํธ๋ฉ) is served in a cup that looks like miso soup.
Soseolwon Mangwon also provides a set menu. This set consists of dessert and drinks. For drinks, Soseolwon provides coffee, tea, non-coffee, and alcohol. Then you may choose which one suits your taste.

โ It does not have elevators only stairs, so consider taking a seat on the 4th floor.
โ This cafe is beautiful to be used as a background for taking pictures, so I recommend taking photos in this cafe!
