Let’s get into the tips and tricks on how you can use this app in hopes to improve your Korean language and maybe make some friends along the way!
Set your profile right
Set your profile right. As soon as you sign up for an account, you will have to enter some details and one of them being an introduction about yourself. If your intentions of using the app is solely for language exchange, culture exchange purposes, then clarify that clearly in your bio. Remember, this isn’t a dating app.
When you set up the app, they will ask your native language and the language that you are interested in learning.
Asking Korean Language questions
This is where the function of the app really shines. I could ask any question about the Korean language; grammar, spelling, pronunciation, etc and I would get answers within a few minutes! This has helped me tremendously with my Korean grammar and sentence structures.
You can upload those type of questions at the ‘moments’ section. The one wit the globe icon. (at the bottom menu second from the left)
There are so many helpful people on the app that are willing to help with your Korean. So don’t be shy to ask or make a mistake!
Texting Korean slang practices
On this app, you can safely chat with other users. Particularly, of Korean locals. There are many of them that are willing to help you with everyday Korean text slang. Some of them are eager to learn English and other languages too, since it is a language exchange app. If you’re interested to help, you can do so too.
I have made online ‘friends’ from this app for language purposes and exchange kakao talk information as well. We would talk about daily activities, hobbies and etc.
However, do this at your own risk, and be picky with the people you give away your contact to. If you find them uncomfortable, you can block them on the app.
Speaking Korean practices
There is a function on the app that allows you to also practice your speaking. You can upload a clip of you speaking Korean to the ‘moments’ feed section. If you’re unsure of how to pronounce certain words or if you want to know if your Korean can be understood by locals, you can record your voice and upload it!
There will be many helpful Koreans on the app that are willing to help sincerely.
If you want to learn Korean more deeply with a proper Korean language course, they offer so many packages under the ‘Learn’ section.
Of course, since it is a language exchange app, the app offers other languages that you can learn too.
Also, just a little side note. Don’t expect to make long term friends from this app. Just use it for the language advantage. There is a probability of you making good friends, but that’s on you.
I hope this post helps you to get some insight on how to use the app! Use the app to your full advantage to improve your Korean. It’s free and there are genuine people who are willing to help.
