This article is for those of you who are interested in taking KIIP classes, also known as the 사회통합프로그램, but don’t know where to start, like me.
All immigrants who legally reside in Korea, including ethnic Koreans with foreign nationalities, International students, foreign workers, marriage migrants, refugees, high-skilled foreign professionals, etc. can take KIIP classes
Naturalized Koreans who have acquired Korean nationality within the past 3 years must also join the program.
KIIP classes are an integral part of getting an F series visa, or the Korean version of a green card. For those who don’t want to rely on a company to stay in Korea legally, this KIIP class is for you. Moreover, finishing KIIP will guarantee you the ability to blend in with Korean society without any difficulty. The Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) assists foreigners residing in Korea with acquiring basic knowledge (Korean language, culture, etc.) to help them become a member of society. Therefore, KIIP class normally is harder than the Topik exam. Especially considering that the KIIP test has a speaking section.
Good thing is, KIIP class is free of charge. However, the attendance system is very strict, you need to attend class to a certain level to be able to take the test. Except for level 0, each level has a total of 100 hours within 3 months. If there are no KIIP classes that fit your schedule, then you should find a way to adjust your schedule so you can have time to attend the classes. This is the single most important thing you can do to secure your legal status in Korea.
There are 3 semesters each year. KIIP Level 0 to 5 classes are open at the start of each semester. You should check available classes 1-2 weeks in advance before the semester starts. KIIP Level 0 and 5 classes can also be found in the middle of the semester because of the short class hours. Below is the 2022 KIIP semester schedule.
KIIP 1st semester: 03 Jan – 08 May
KIIP 2nd semester: 09 May – 14 Aug
KIIP 3rd semester: 15 Aug – 11 Dec.
