I love Seoul, but sometimes an escape from the big city is absolutely necessary. If you’re looking for a place to get away and relax with family and friends, Maple House Pension in Yangpyeong is the perfect place for some healing time!
Yangpyeong is located east of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province and is a popular vacation spot for Seoulites. Just one hour away from the capital, Yangpyeong is easy to visit, but surrounded by beautiful nature and fresh air. I recommend visiting Maple House, where you can leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind.
Maple House Pension
Maple House is a family-owned pension located in a quiet forest in Starlight Village, a rural area of Yangpyeong. The pension is a large 2-story, 6 bedroom home that can accommodate up to 14 people in total. Furthermore, each room has its own bathroom and shower facilities. Additionally, there are multiple common areas such as a family game room, a spacious living room, a fully-equipped kitchen and a large outdoor patio.
Maple House Amenities
Maple House is clean, comfortable and stocked up with numerous amenities. In the kitchen, you’ll find all the dishes, cooking utensils and cutlery you could need. Additionally, there is a full-size refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker and even an espresso machine!
The bathrooms are equally well-stocked with towels, shampoo and soap. This is definitely the kind of place you can pack light for and still have a pleasant stay.
Maple House Facilities
The best part about Maple House is its all-in-one vacation experience. As well as having a comfortable place to stay, there’s various activities to participate in, each with an emphasis on healing time.
What would a Korean vacation be without karaoke? Here at Maple House, they have a karaoke machine, strobe light and microphones right in the living room! Therefore, you can sing and dance the night away without ever leaving the premises. Why not do it in your pajamas?
Guests are welcome to use the grill on the outdoor patio for a 25,000 KRW fee to cover the cost of equipment and charcoal. Moreover, book in advance for an all-inclusive barbecue party! Just sit back and relax and the staff will prepare the food and cook it to your liking. Cost varies depending on your preferences, but there’s plenty of delicious things on offer, like meat, seafood and traditional Korean side dishes.
Dietary restrictions? No problem. Let them know in advance and they will accommodate your needs. In my case, I am vegan and I ate a full tasty meal there.
Nothing beats ending the day with a campfire under the stars in Yangpyeong. Wood can be purchased for the bonfire pit outside, and the staff of Maple House will help you get a fire started. On the other hand, if you prefer to stay indoors, there is also a fireplace in the living room so you can still enjoy a nice, cozy fire.
Activities offered may differ based on weather and the season that you visit. However, if you visit in the warmer months, you can have a picnic on the lawn. Maple House provides a picnic mat and a basket filled with juice, cookies, and bread, and, as you can see, the setup is picture perfect!
Healing Arts & Crafts
Maple House Pension markets itself as a place for healing. Take a short walk into the forest and you’ll quickly understand why. Surrounded by trees, it’s the perfect place to relax in a hammock and get some fresh air. Kids can enjoy a ropes course as well as different hands-on activities such as clay sculpting. My personal favorite activity was taking photos with a polaroid camera.
If you’re a gourmand, you may prefer the popular sausage-making activity in the village. Make your own sausages and grill them at the pension, or refrigerate them and take them home with you.
Things to Do near Maple House
If you do fancy venturing out of the pension during your stay, there’s plenty in Yangpyeong and the surrounding area to see and do. I recommend Seoksan Valley, Yangpyeong Sheep Ranch or rent a canoe!
