Hanulbapsang Banchan Restaurant in Jeonju

Hanulbapsang Restaurant in Jeonju offers traditional Korean cuisine. Which, yes, a lot of restaurants in Korea offer traditional Korean food. But, here they serve a crazy number of side dishes, each more delicious than the next.

Side dishes

Side dishes (banchan/반찬) are something that you always find in Korean restaurants. Sometimes they keep it simple, with just some type of kimchi. But some places, like Jeonju, are known to give many side dishes, which compliments the main dish.

The Restaurant

The Hanulbapsang (한울밥상) Restaurant is close to downtown Jeonju. The building is big enough to accommodate all the customers that show up. However, the place was full past normal dinner hours. So, you may have to wait a bit depending on what time you arrive.

One thing that I wanted to point out was the customer service. Apparently, it does not matter how many people they have to take care of. The food arrives fast and is always right. As customary, you can always ask for a refill on the side dishes.

I wish I can say the name of all the side dishes that they brought. But, there were some I didn’t recognize and it was the first time that I tried them. One thing is for sure, they were all of great quality. They do explain everything that arrives at your table, so you will definitely be introduced to some new dishes.

Menu

As the main dish, you have four options to choose from:

• Special Dish: Grilled short rib patties (떡갈비), bulgogi, soup, and 16 types of side dishes. All of this is for 18,000 Won.
• Bulgogi Dish: bulgogi, soup, and between 14 and 16 types of side dishes. The price of this one is 9,800 Won.
• Grilled Short Rib Patties Set: this one is the same as the previous one (including the price), but instead of the bulgogi, you get the patties.
• Only Side Dishes: this set does not include any main dishes, but comes with the soup and the side dishes for you to enjoy. This goes for 8,000 Won.

I found the price to be very reasonable for the amount of food that you can get. Not only that, the experience of having this many banchans to choose from was really great.

Address

Hanulbapsang is close to downtown Jeonju, so it is really easy to go by walking (around 10 minutes from the main Hanok village). While walking there, you can check out all the nice places they have in Jeonju, and it was super nice seeing the nightlife in the city.

Conclusion

If you are looking for great traditional Korean food and experience in the middle of Korea, I would definitely recommend a place like Hanulbapsang. The food was great, and the amount of banchan that they serve makes the experience even more memorable. Other than this, the taste of everything was great!
