It’s now April, and signs of spring are sprouting up all over the place. Korea’s climate is a lot to handle but now is one of the best times of the year. The flowers bloom, trees become lush, and we can finally start spending more time outside again! Here are some fun spring activities in Korea that can help you get the most out of the season.
Nami Island
Nami Island is lovely in all seasons, but I particularly enjoy it in the fall and spring. In the spring, the island is dotted with cherry blossom trees, as well as flowers and gardens. You can ride a swan boat around the island, rent bicycles, ride a mini rail bike, listen to live performances, and even zip line to the island!
There are also lots of lovely little critters that inhabit the island. In spring you can find people-friendly bunnies and peacocks. The bunnies in particular like to frolic among the flowers and come up for pets.
Boseong Tea Fields
In Boseong, you can enjoy views of Korea’s famous tea terraces. You have two of the country’s largest tea plantations right next to each other! And – they are open to the public.
It is the perfect place to spend a beautiful afternoon. Daehan Dawon is the most well-known plantation in the area. They offer food as well as a cafe where you can try some green tea products! Within walking distance is the Botjae Dawon tea plantation, which is less visited. However, it offers a sea view if you climb to the top of the terraces. After taking beautiful photos and strolling through the tea plantations, make sure to try the green tea ice cream! Nothing beats fresh green tea ice cream!
Hiking
Korea is full of mountains and has tons of national parks for such a small country! In fact, there are 21 national parks in Korea. That’s quite impressive!
Hiking is a popular pastime in Korea. Mostly because the mountains are full of friendly locals, breathtaking scenery, and some of the cleanest air in Korea. It’s also nice to get away from the city and reconnect with nature. Bukhansan National Park in Seoul is one of the best hiking destinations around. There are a few easy hikes like the Golden Buddha Hike and longer, more difficult hikes like Bagundae Peak.
Damyang Bamboo Forest
Damyang is the place to go if you want to experience spring activities concerning both history and nature.
Damyang is a small city just outside of Gwangju. It is a great place to spend the weekend relaxing and enjoy spring. A visit to Damyang’s Juknokwon Bamboo Garden is one of the most rejuvenating Spring activities in Jeollanam-do. You can enjoy walking through the garden, which is lined with tall bamboo. It is recommended to bring a picnic lunch and eat it in the pavilion. Don’t forget to visit the Sequoia trees after!
