Daejeon is the fifth largest city in South Korea. Did you know that Daejeon City is considered the largest science center in South Korea? It is located in the central region of South Korea that serves as a hub of transportation and is at the intersections of major transport routes. Additionally, it is one of the administration hubs in South Korea with the Daejeon Government Complex. Prestigious universities like Chungnam National University and KAIST are located in Daejeon. During the Joseon Dynasty, the city of Daejeon was, historically known as Hanbat, a native Korean term for ‘large field’. Well based on history, in 1926, Honam Railway was constructed between Daejeon and Mokpo under the rule of the Japanese Government. It is a major railway line served by regular passenger trains from Seoul to Gwangju and Mokpo. Due to this, Daejeon transformed into a major transportation hub.

KAIST and Chungnam National University
Daejeon is the home of public and private research centers, institutes, and science parks. Among the research and development universities cluster, KAIST is strong in the fields of electrical and nuclear engineering, computer science, chemistry, and telecommunications. On the other hand, Chungnam National University is also skilled in those fields including expertise in medicine, biotechnology, and agricultural sciences.

Expo Science Park
In 1993 an international exposition was conducted at Daejeon wherein some landmarks such as Expo Bridge and Hanbit Tower were built and then renovated the areas into an Expo Science Park. The Expo Park is a science park in Yuseong-gu Daejeon. It consists of an amusement park, gardens, and observation tower.

Hanbat Arboretum
The Hanbat Arboretum is the largest man-made arboretum in Korea. It is located near the Daejeon Expo Science Park. The arboretum showcases various species of plants. Furthermore, it provides a relaxing green space for everyone and an educational place for youth.

Daejeon O-World

Daejeon Skyroad
Skyroad is a shopping and cultural center. It is a street of several department stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and underground shopping malls. If you go here, you can see the world’s fourth-largest arcaded LED video screen.

Daecheong Dam
The Daecheong Dam is a multi-purpose dam. It is made up of 72 meter-tall and 495 meter-long concrete gravity dam and a rockfill dam. It provides water supply to Daejeon City and Cheongju City. Moreover, it also serves as a power source for its nearby neighborhood cities.

Yuseong Hot Spring
Yuseong Hot Spring is located at the central point of Daejeon. It has two foot baths with 100% hot spring water that are free to access. The hot spring is perceived to be effective in countering many kinds of illness. It’s free so expect to see many locals here.
