TeamLab’s latest exhibition, Life, is an attempt to recreate life’s beauty through a variety of bold and entrancing artworks that utilize the facilities and features of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza culture complex to the utmost. The dichotomies of nature’s blessing and threatening force, alongside that of the benefits and risks of a growing civilization, are harmoniously intertwined with one another. There may not be any absolute evil to specifically pinpoint, yet there are some aspects of nature and civilization that are too cruel to simply succomb to and accept. This dynamic and overall sentiment is not something that can be understood or defined in a conventional way. However, people find a way to continue onward, which speaks to the beauty life itself.
As an interdisciplinary group having launched operations in 2001, TeamLab seeks out common ground between art and science & technology through mass creative projects and activities. The group is comprised of several field specialists from artists and programmers to enginners, CG animators, mathematicians, designers, and more, while searching for a new dynamic existing between humans, nature, and the world we live in through art. People naturally create boundaries between the world they live in and experience and the world as it is, leading to a false awareness that depicts everything to be separate from one another and therefore we place ourselves at a distance from everything. And TeamLab works to find a way to go beyond that level of awareness, the boundaries created between ourselves and the world, as well as the awareness that time is simply continuous to ultimately convey that we all miraculously exist by a thread within a connectivity of life free of time-defined boundaries.
