Due to a busy schedule, it is not always possible to have an overnight trip. In such cases, I travel to nearby cities. Since I live in Seoul I travel to cities that are connected to Seoul via subway or city buses. On one such day, I decided to take a trip to Incheon with my friends. Incheon is connected to Seoul via the subway as well as the bus. From my place, it took almost an hour to reach Incheon. On my trip to Incheon, I visited China Town, Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village, and Wolmi Island(Wolmido).
Incheon China Town
China town came into existence with the opening of Incheon Port, when Chinese immigrants came to Korea in search of work. Although original Chinese traditions may have been lost throughout the years, it still retains some of those traditions. Today most of their business is related to restaurants.
Restaurants, that’s where we headed as soon we got to China Town. We tried to find a restaurant which is famous for good food. Any trip is incomplete without good food. After having the recommended menu we took a look around China Town and Jayu (Freedom) Park.
After China Town, we moved to Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village which is within walking distance from China Town.
- 14, Chinatown-ro 52 beon-gil, Jung-gu, Incheon
- 인천광역시 중구 차이나타운로59번길 20
Take Seoul Subway Line 1 and get down at Incheon station. Come out of exit 3, China Town is right across the street.
Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village
The street is full of Murals and colorful cute paintings. If you are interested in graffiti or cute things I would recommend you to visit this place. You can get some cute SNS worthy photos here.
The place has various cute cafes as well. So why not get some delicious drinks and dessert and good photos. As soon as we found a cute café, we decided to take a small break after all the walking in the neighborhood. Drinking hot cocoa felt like a blessing in that cold weather.
After having drinks we headed towards our next and final destination of the day was Wolmido.
- 38, Donghwamaeul-gil, Jung-gu, Incheon
- 인천광역시 중구 동화마을길 38 (송월동3가) 일대
Take Seoul Subway Line 1 and get down at Incheon station. Come out of exit 2, Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village is situated within 10 minutes’ walking distance.
Wolmido Island’s name derives from its shape. The island shape resembles a half-moon tail. There is a cultural street on the Island which has Meeting Square, Arts Square, Performance Square, Good Harvest Square, and various other zones. If you are lucky you can find people performing there. Unluckily we did not find anyone. Still, taking a stroll alongside the sea was not bad. Winter Sea has its own charms. Although it might be cold outside, looking at sea everyone forgets about the cold. All you see is happy faces and hear happy voices. Seeing these things make me realize how Sea enchants people regardless of the weather.
The street also has various seafood restaurants and various cafes. If you are feeling hungry why not try some authentic seafood there. If you are feeling cold or want to take some rest, find a good café, and sip on your coffee while looking at the vast Sea.
Wolmi Island also has an amusement park. Although it might not be as big as most of the theme parks of Korea, it has its own charms. Viking and Apollo disco rides are really fun. By the time we reach the amusement park, it was almost sunset time. So we decided to take the ferry wheel to see the sunset with the sea in the background. Although I was disappointed with one round of ferry, the view from the above made the ride worthwhile. The red setting sun behind the sea was really mesmerizing.
The amusement park is a shooting place for various dramas and Music Video. One of my favorite ones is Love Blossom by K.will. If you like to listen to K-Pop or watch K-Dramas, I recommend you to watch the MV or these dramas.
