DMC to operate outdoor ice skating rink along Sincheon Stream free of charge from December 27 (Tue) through February 15 (Wed)
Daegu Metropolitan City (DMC) will be operating an outdoor ice skating rink on the bank of Sincheon Stream (downstream, near Daebonggyo Bridge) for residents to safely enjoy the winter cold. The skating rink was opened on December 27 (Tue) and will be offered free of charge for 51 days without closing.
The skating rink, which was set up in front of Debec Plaza, is expected to be popular among residents as a fun means of outdoor exercise. It is especially meaningful because it is the first one to be operated since the outbreak of COVID-19.
To offer a fun and safe experience for all ages, the facility is made up of an ice skating rink (1,620㎡), area for traditional sledding (675㎡), rest area and snack stand.
The skating rink will be open daily from 10 am until 7 pm. On weekends and holidays, it will be open for one extra hour (10 am ~ 8 pm). Visitors were given gifts (first-come, first-served basis) from December 27. In the evening, the skating rink is lit with night lights to make visitors’ experience of it more memorable.
Because the skating rink is located in the heart of the city, there is no parking lot. Visitors are strongly recommended to use public transportation (subway: Line 3 (Daebong Station); bus: 234, 304, 323, 509, or circular 2-1).
DMC is planning to make Sincheon Stream a favorite year-round destination for residents of all ages by installing the ice skating rink and pool, both of which are immensely popular, as permanent facilities.
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo said, “I hope Daegu’s citizens can enjoy the winter weather at the outdoor ice skating rink with their families as a respite from the many restrictions on daily life posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, we are expecting to make the ice skating rink and pool, which have thus far been offered on a temporary basis, as permanent fixtures of Sincheon so that citizens can enjoy outings at the stream regardless of season.”
