Dongdaemun Toy and Stationery Street is also known as Changsin-dong Toy Wholesale Market. It is Korea’s largest market with over over 100 stores in its street. It is the best place is you want to buy cheap yet good quality toys and stationery supplies. Kids and kids at heart will definitely feel like they are in a toy paradise with all the various toys on sale. While those who love to collect and use stationery and novelty items will definitely find themselves wanting to buy all the cute and useful goods that will see there. It is a perfect shopping area for those who love to give gifts for kids during Christmas season.

What to Buy from Dongdaemun Toy and Stationery Street

The Dongdaemun Toy and Stationery Street is actually just a street which will take you more or less 15-minute of walk. However, with the numerous stores lined up on both sides of the street, you will definitely consume a lot of time looking on their displays and on-sale items. For adults, it is like walking down memory as you see all the familar toys that you may have had or dreamed to have when you were young.


The market is full of toys of different kinds, shapes, sizes and colors. Indeed, it is a toy paradise. There is also large store of Lego that sells them at cheaper price.

Girls and boys will also love seeing these cars and dolls on display at the stores in the market. You can even find a doll wearing a hanbok or the Korean traditional clothing.

Most of the shops there sell similar products so you might want to check the other stores before buying so you can compare their prices.

Price of Goods

The price of goods at Dongdaemun Toy and Stationery Street is relatively cheaper compare to those available in large shopping malls. On the average, you can get items here that are 30% to 40% lower than its price in retail stores. You can also get big discounts if you will buy it on a wholesale price. Another good thing about buying from there is that you can even bargain for a lower price. Of course, to do that, you must be able to speak basic Korean. Though sometimes, some sellers could easily that you are asking for discounts and will show you the discounted price using their calculator.

Mode of Payment

As for the mode of payment, there are stores that accept cards but some are only accepting cash. Hence, make sure that you have cash in your wallet especially if you intend to buy a lot of stuff from there. But if in case you don’t have enough cash on your hand, you can withdraw from nearby ATMs. If your card is an international card, you don’t have to worry as there is a Global ATM at the nearby Woori Bank. It is located just across the street from the entrance of Dongdaemun Toy and Stationery Street. You can use pedestrian lane or the subway station underpass and find your way to Exit 3, the bank is on your left.

The operating hours vary per store but they are usually open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except for Sunday when its closed.

Take Seoul Subway Line 6 and get off at Dongmyo Station, Exit 6 or 7. Or Take Seoul Subway Lines 1 & 2 and get off at Dongdaemun Station, Exit 4.
