I never imagined it would be so hard to live with a dog in Korea. Coming from Austria, a country where you just take your dog almost everywhere, I was surprised at how many things you have to reconsider when going somewhere. So when I moved from Seoul to Incheon, one of the first things I did, was find a cafe where I could bring my dog with me. And I was lucky to find this amazing café just a few minutes by foot from my home. So, let me introduce you to Dalnuna, a café with super tasty open sandwiches and friendly staff that will welcome your dog as much as you.
This cute café is close to Imhak Park, one of the hiking entrances to Gyeyangsan Mountain. So it could also be the perfect place to end your hike, or take a drink and walk around. If the weather is right you can sit outside and enjoy the sunshine or stay inside to enjoy the air conditioning in summer. I really love the interior, which is kept simple but still has character.
Right when you enter you will be greeted. You probably won’t be the only dog owner at this cafe, which is nice but also be sure to keep your distance or ask before you approach other dogs. There are some nice window seats, but my favorite seat is on the sofa with the mural in the back. The owner has little blankets all over the place, so if you feel cold you can use them.
Dalnuna’s Special Menu
If you take a look at their menu you will see a variety of items. My two favorites are the egg-bacon and the salmon toast. In general, you wait around 15 minutes for it. The toast is crispy and that what is I love about it.
Additionally, you will get a salad with balsamic dressing and cherry tomatoes. These sandwiches taste different than the typical ones you usually get in Korea.
It really feels like home- like Europe and I go there a lot when I have time. Sometimes I even just go and get something while walking my dog.
What to Do Around Dalnuna
I know, not a lot of people would come to Gyengyang-gu, maybe you remember passing it on your way from or to the airport. However, I am pretty sure you never thought about getting off there. Except, maybe if you love hiking.
And exactly that is what I would recommend you to do there. Gyeyangsan is a beautiful mountain and the path starts from the Gyesan Station. It is easy to find. You just need to follow those who are in sporty hiking gear.
So you can either hike to the top or just take a walk around the first course of the Incheon dullegil. Even if you don’t go hiking, just walk up some stairs and find an amazing view over this site of Incheon. Whether you sit in the pavilion or just have a picnic on the grass. Of course, most of the area is very dog-friendly.
Another spot is the fortress museum at the foot of the mountain, which is small but cute. Take some time to look around and learn more about the history of the place. On the top floor is a café, which is part of community service for people with disabilities.
So if you ever find your way to Gyeyangsan for a hike, you won’t be disappointed by Dalnuna Café. They have a variety of different drinks. I really always go back there for the sandwiches and the possibility of bringing Gremlin with me. It is just nice to know I can bring my dog and spend a relaxing time without worrying about my Gremlin being alone.
