When the sun is out, everything looks brighter and more vivid, and seeing many colours is an unspoken joy! To me, Summer is the season of colours, and many in the fashion industry would agree. Indeed, fashion items released during Summer always seem to be brighter than others. I am notorious for wearing only black and white clothing. However, the one place I love to add colour is my accessories. Small enough not to be too loud, but overt enough to give a bit of flare to my outfit. I especially love wearing rings and bracelets in a rainbow of colours. Furthermore, I have been looking to Korean independent jewellery brands for inspiration, and to find jewellery that suits me.

These particular brands produce funky, colourful accessories all year round. Whatโs more, I have chosen brands with vivaciousness embedded in their brand identity. However, I โ and many others โ peruse their catalogue in the warmer months, when jewellery is on display and not hidden by ear muffs and long sleeves. Without further ado, here are a few of the best independent jewellery brands on-scene in Korea this summer!
Youngly Youngley
Sported by many a fashionista in recent months, Youngly Youngley is most famous for their bold rings, made in every colour under the sun. Their signature style is a thick, non-uniform formica band with a few coloured gem stones, usually in a eye-catching colour combinations.
Youngly Youngley rings are the perfect statement piece and a way to wear your personality in your style. Furthermore, the sheer variety on offer is enough to satisfy even the pickiest of jewellery connoisseurs.
If block colour nโ bold isnโt your style, you might be interested in the Youngly Youngley vintage range. In this collection, youโll find large golden cameo rings with 3D postage stamp figures and coins. They are just as eye-catching as the previous style, but with a classy, elegant feel. The line also features unique hair accessories, consisting of bunched demure floral fabrics and velvet ribbons. Wear the vintage range and feel like a character from the Great Gatsby!
My final Young Youngely favourite is their eccentric beaded pieces. Whatโs more, their beaded rings in the shape of five-petaled flowers and beaded earrings in the shape of tropical fruit and even scallion onions!
Youngly Youngleyโs unique brand personality has been their formula for success. The large variety of styles means there is something to suit every taste. Lastly, the brandโs daring nature serves to inspire their customers to be the same with their fashion choices.

Fruit of the Light
Fruit of the Light (FOTL) specialises in glass accessories with quirky shapes and translucent colours. The unique aspect of this brand design, is how the coloured glass illuminates with light, providing a whole new dimension oneโs fashion and style. Although FOTL is not the first brand to work in the glass medium, they are among few that work exclusively in it. Furthermore, the use of an inconstant element, such as light, within the design, allows the jewellery to be flaunted according to occasion. Go for a neon blue or green and look electric in disco spotlight or go for a more subtle tone and your rings will melt surreptitiously into your evening wear.
The Dot Ring line is especially beautiful. The line features the iconic transparent, thick band of glass, but with raised dots. Where these rings go plain and simple with base colours, they make up for with unique texture and pattern. They are simply the perfect embellishment for any outfit. Whatโs more, FOTL encourages their customers to personalise, offering 32 dot colours to choose from! Therefore, anyone and everyone can express themselves and adhere to taste.
They even have a ring inspired by the much-loved Korean ice cream treat, Jaws bar. The appropriately named Jaws Ring, features a swirl of red and blue within glass, echoing the style of the ice cream bar packaging. Of course, the bar itself is based on the 1975 iconic film where we see red blood swirling in the blue oceanโฆ queue the soundtrack. However, if youโre feeling spoiled for choice, you canโt go wrong with their simple Colour Ring line. Glass bands dyed in various colours, simple yet beautiful, so just go ahead and choose your favourite!
On the other hand, if the design is too โtoy-likeโ for you, FOTL also features a pearl range. Pearls are a classic element in the world of jewellery but FOTL incorporates their iconic coloured glass here too. The Green Been pear necklace combines elegant white pearls with an eye-catching emerald green. Through FOTLโs creative flair, the wearer can portray a sense of maturity and class as well as their playfulness.
