Wondering where to visit during the Christmas weekend? In the mood for those twinkling Christmas lights and beautiful decorations? Well, look no further than Times Square Mall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Expect the ultimate Christmas atmosphere, as well as delicious food and plenty of entertainment.
You may have heard of The Hyundai Seoul, one of the capital city’s representative megamalls, but just a stone’s throw away is the criminally underrated Times Square. It is one of the largest multipurpose shopping malls in Korea, with over 5 floors of stores, restaurants and other entertainment.
Here, you’ll find all of Korea’s classic mall establishments, like a department store, supermarket, cinema and bookstore. However, you’ll also find unique spaces, exclusive to Times Square. Some highlights include the Shinsegae Factory Outlet store, where you can pick up designer items at a discount price, international brand offline stores and even overnight accommodation at the Marriott Hotel. Furthermore, there are several cultural spaces where special pop-up events are held weekly!
Times Square certainly goes all out at Christmas. I first discovered the Times Square Christmas display on social media. The photos looked so stunning, I knew I had to visit before the season was over. Once you reach the main entrance, you’ll see a huge Christmas tree lit up in warm lights. There is also a small garden that makes a perfect photozone. Last year, the Christmas display had a cabin/camping theme, with a rustic hut and campfire photozones.
At night, the area gets quite crowded, with many couples queuing up to take photos in front of the tree. Indeed, with the right angle and a decent cameraphone, you can take an enchanting photo.
Times Square was originally the site of the world’s largest cinema screen, approx. 13 x 32m, but was stripped of its title by Lotte World Tower’s Superplex in 2014. Regardless, the mall is spectacular, with its towering escalators and dazzling screens and lights.
At Christmas time, many stores in the mall run Christmas events or release items with a Christmas theme. Additionally, mini market stalls can be found selling Christmas trinkets and other gifts.
