Byeol-A-Ra Guesthouse: Warmest Guesthouse Ever

Guesthouse is no doubt the best choice of accommodation for backpackers and people who love to meet new people in the middle of a travel trip. Rather than staying in luxurious but expensive hotel, some people prefer to just get a comfortable bed to sleep on top and spare the money on other stuffs during a trip. If you are that kind of people, and you happen to visit to Namhe Island, I would like to recommend you Byeol-A-Ra Guesthouse, the warmest guesthouse I have ever had.

Rooms in Byeol-A-Ra

They have 5 rooms available for guests named byeol 2 to byeol 6. Two of them are large rooms for family of 4 or 5 people and 3 rooms are for couples or travelers of a pair. It is not a big guesthouse but it has all what a guesthouse should have. Air conditioner in summer, heater in winter, comfortable bunk beds, blankets, table, mirror, towels and hair dryer. Well, they even provide lockers for each person in the room to put their personal belongings. And, yes, a sea view window!

Community Room

The community room at the 2^nd floor is a public space where the people living in the guesthouse hang out. There are TVs, books, swing, tables and chairs in the room. I saw photos of people gathering for dinner and drinking. The owner of the guesthouse also joined the club and they looked really enjoyed in the photos. I guess, again, due to the virus pandemic, people are not allowed to gather and have meal together nowadays.

In addition, at one corner of the community room, you could find a number of wooden handcrafts(?) with some house-like paintings on it. They are provided by the owners for the guests to write something on it. You can write anything: wishes, quotes, recommendations. And you put it on the bookshelf or near the window.

Kitchen

A small kitchen space is also provided just outside the community room. You can get refrigerator, water dispenser and microwave there.

Washroom

Just like many other guesthouses, washrooms and shower rooms are shared among the guests but separated for men and women. You don’t have a personal toilet in your room. But, you don’t have to worry about the toiletries because they do provide them in the shower room. You could use the shampoo, body wash, conditioner, and toothpaste for free.

Scenic View from Byeol-A-Ra

Its geographical location just beside the sea offers you sea view from the window of your room. Imagine waking up with a view with blue sea harmonizing with blue sky every day. How energizing it can be? If you look closely, you might also notice an island on the other side of the sea. It’s the other part of South Korea called Yeosu! Also, locating at the west coast of Namhae Island, Byeol-A-Ra is just perfect for sunset view. You could either watch it from your room indoor or sit on the side wall near the sea or from Byeol-A-Ra café!

Location and Reservation

To access by public transport from Namhae Bus Terminal, bus number 405, 406, 407 could bring you directly to Janghyang station, the bus station nearby. And then you could walk to the guesthouse in 6 minutes. Or, you could just grab a taxi for about 10000 won of taxi fare. 

There are several ways to make reservation. You could check the availability of their rooms online through either Naver or their homepage. Or, simply you could make a call by the contact number above. I believe the owner speaks English and will answer you kindly. The price of each room varies and they change depending on the season. It is generally about 30000 won each person per night.

Byeol-A-Ra Café

At the first floor of the guesthouse, the owner opens a warm and picturesque café. The space inside the café is not big but wide enough to accommodate 6 tables indoor and some outdoor seats. I love the atmosphere of Byeol-A-Ra Café. Many antique and aesthetic decorations were all around the café. Sitting at the window seats, you could enjoy the sea view unfolded in front of your eyes.

They have several kind of beverages: hand grip coffee, latte, ade and draft beers. Everything is really inexpensive, ranging from 4000 won to 6000 won. One thing to note is that you even get a 1000 won discount of the drinks if you stay in Byeol-A-Ra Guesthouse. We were satisfied with the drinks. I ordered a sweet potato latte and I would say it was really good. The sweet potato taste is very strong and I could feel the solid extract of sweet potato in the drink. Worth a 5-star rating!

In addition, the owner of the café was kind and hospitable. She even recommended us the must-visit spots in Namhae by marking them on a map.
