Getting botox in Korea is surprisingly affordable and easy to access. In fact, botox is a common procedure for both women and men in Korea. The great thing about botox is that its a quick process with minimal side effects. Whether you live in Korea or are just here for vacation, I recommend that you visit The M, who specialise in preserving healthy skin and young complexion.
The M Plastic Surgery
The M’s head consultant, Dr Won-min Yoo is one of few plastic surgeons in Korea with over 30 years experience. Dr Yoo is fluent in English and was even Professor of plastic surgery at Yale University Hospital in the US, so you know that you’re in good hands. What’s more, you can freely discuss any concerns that you have and understand the procedure in full before it takes place. They even have an on-site translator — no language barriers here!
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, medical tourists travelled from all over the world to receive treatments at The M Plastic Surgery here in Seoul.
Many franchise surgeries advertise cheap botox injections, but the quality is poor. Many of my friends who have received botox at these places often have to go for several top-ups a week later, because the initial injections did not work well. Make no mistake, see the experts for a high quality service with long-lasting effects.
Botox at The M: My Experience
Whether its for cosmetic or health reasons, you should definitely visit an English-speaking medical institution in Korea. Foreigners can mostly live easily in Korea without knowing the language, that is, until you need to visit the doctor. Honestly, trying to talk with a translation app is PAINFUL. However, at The M you can enjoy a carefree experience knowing all that you say will be understood. In fact, previous experiences with botox were very stressful because we couldn’t communicate clearly.
On arrival, the receptionists were friendly and welcomed me in English. However, by booking in advance, little communication was needed as they were already expecting me. They ushered me to the consultation room.
The reception and hallways were so peaceful and quiet and I noticed information booklets in multiple languages. As for the decor, The M has certainly gone for a sleek, classy theme.
With the consult and translator, I reaffirmed what I had mentioned before: that I wanted Botox injections at my forehead, frown lines and jaw muscle. As you may have guessed, I’m a lover of cosmetic treatments and skincare, so I was well-informed before my appointment. If you’ve never had botox before, don’t worry, the consult will explain everything you need to know and can make a plan that suits you.
After the initial consult, I was taken for a physical examination by Dr Yoo. He asked me to remove my mask so he could observe the symmetry and size of my face, as well as the muscles I wanted to treat. He also asked me to bite down so he could assess my jaw. After the examination, he explained that he cannot inject any lower than 1 inch above my brow bone, as my forehead muscles were stronger-than-average.
My Tailored Botox Plan by Dr Yoo
I wanted to get botox to reduce forehead and frown lines (aesthetic reasons) and to relieve muscle ache due to teeth grinding (medical reasons.) Jaw botox is also common amongst celebrities who want to gain more jawline definition. Dr Yoo explained that he would inject me in 2 lines across my forehead and 6 times into my brow muscles and jaw, twice.
After the consultation, I was led to floor B1 where the treatment rooms are. When I arrived, the nurse was already prepping the botox vials and syringes. I lay down in the chair and was given a cuddly toy to squeeze during the uncomfortable parts of the procedure. Then, Dr Yoo arrived and checked my muscle placements one last time before starting the injections.
He started with the main forehead lines by making injections temple to temple. Some clinics use ice before botox, but it is not really necessary as the needles are so small and the procedure is fast. The M did not provide anaesthesia or ice before injections. While the injections are uncomfortable, it is easy to stay still for the duration.
After completing my forehead, Dr Yoo made injections in my brow and jaw muscles. Sounds like a lot right? Well, the entire procedure took only 5 minutes. After it was finished, I felt fine and was permitted to leave. I must’ve been at the hospital for less than 30 minutes in total!
It’s the part you’ve all been waiting for: the results. Botox can take between 1 day to 1 week for effects to show. Compared to my previous botox experiences, I noticed the change to my forehead in less than 3 days! My forehead is super smooth and line-free. My jaw pain took a little longer to resolve, but by day 5 I noticed my jaw muscles were less tense. One week later and I’m no longer grinding my teeth in my sleep.
I had a really positive experience at The M Plastic Surgery. Dr Yoo and his staff were so helpful and kind during my visit. They reassured me throughout the procedure and even assisted me in taking photos for my article! I had small bruises for 3 days following the injections, which the staff explained is a common side effect. Nonetheless, they were easily hidden by makeup and no one noticed.
Amazing Service, Friendly Staff, Quick ResultsAmazing Service, Friendly Staff, Quick Results
It makes such a different visiting a hospital where English language is available. At The M I felt at-ease and that I could raise any issues with ease as well. This was not my first time getting botox but it was certainly the best I’ve received, with no need for a top-up visit. I’d happily recommend The M to anyone interested in botox, whether a newbie or a botox expert! Dr Yoo’s expertise is unbeatable and the results speak for themselves.
