One of the best things to do in Jeju Island is to do a café hopping. It is because there are a lot of Instragrammable coffee shops that do not only serve good tasting coffee but also offer breathtaking views. So when I was doing our itinerary for Jeju, I asked one of our Korean teachers to recommend a cafe to visit there, and she recommended the Bomnal Cafe.
Bomnal Cafe is located in the village of Aewol and it started its operation in 2011. It is famous among local tourists for its awesome coastal view and aesthetic structures.
But aside from my teacher’s recommendation, I was determined to visit Bomnal Cafe because it used to be a filming location of a Korean drama that I watched in 2015. If you are a fan of actors Kang So-ra and Yoo Yeon-seok, then you have probably watched their drama Warm and Cozy. Most of the scenes in the drama were filmed at the Bomnal cafe which appeared as the ‘Maendorong Ttottot’ run by Baek Gun-woo (Yoo Yeon-seok).
In addition to Warm and Cozy, the 2013 Kdrama Goddess of Marriage also featured the Bomnal Cafe in its pilot episode where Kim Hyun-woo (Lee Sang-woo) was waiting for Song Ji-hye (Nam Sang-mi).
Compare to the look of the Bomnal Cafe in the Kdramas mentioned above, this cafe has changed its exterior and interior designs. But I was still able to find the signs of “Maendorong Ttottot” from Warm and Cozy hanging on the entrance of the cafe.
Before you enter the premises of the cafe, you will have to place your order first at the window. One person must order at least 1 drink from the menu. Moreover, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they cannot allow a group of customers with more than 5 persons.
From the entrance, several floral displays will welcome you along with mirrors where you can take your mirror selfies, whether alone or with companions. You can also have a glimpse of the sea in between the structures of the cafe which makes it a perfect spot to take photos.
The inside of Bomnal Cafe is entirely different from that you can see at Warm and Cozy. But it has glass windows which allow you to enjoy the coastal view while sipping your coffee. From the inside, you can also see the other aesthetic coffee shops beside Bomnal.
Additionally, this cafe also has several tables and chairs outdoors where you can enjoy your drink while feeling the breeze that the ocean brings. But during the rainy season, you might want to dine inside the cafe instead to avoid getting soaked in the rain.
Menu & Price
The Bomnal Cafe offers coffee, tea, ice cream, bread, and cakes. They also have cocktails, beer, and other beverages. The cost of their drinks ranges from 5,000 to 8,000 Korean won. While their signature Bomnal Ice Cream costs 5,500 Korean won, the servings of their ice cream is a little bit small in my opinion.
