To finish my Chuseok weekend, I decided to spend that Monday with one of my best friends here in Korea. We went to an amazing board cafe in Hongdae and had a fantastic time!
Finding a Board Game Cafe in Hongdae
Since I am boyfriendless (if you want to check that story, Click Here), I was invited over by her and her boyfriend to have a nice date with the three of us. At first, I didnโt know if I wanted to say yes or if I wanted to flee. It felt like I was being invited out of pity. But, she said she actually wanted me and her boyfriend to meet and get along since both of us are important people in her life. So I accepted.

We met at exit 9 in Hongik University Station and walked no more than 10 minutes until we were at the game board cafe. A board game cafe is a place you go to play board games with friends and share a snack. The few board game cafรฉs I had gone to were typical. But this one was filled with board games from which you could choose what to play.
The Aesthetics
Entering this place I felt like I was being dragged into a book. More specifically, into a Sherlock Holmes novel. The board game cafe is named after him, Holmes and Lupin, and it is completely gorgeous!

The place is designed to look like the streets in the book series. There are numbers on the game tables in old English font. The place serves food and beverages, and it even has a monitor in which you can look for any game and watch a small summary of instructions on how to play.
Our Experience at the Board Game Cafe in Hongdae
We spent our whole day there. We played BlueMarvel, which is like the Korean version of Monopoly. And of course, I lost all my money before I could blink. We ordered some fries and drinks. Then, we moved to a very intense game of Rummikub, and then a round of Carcassonne.
It was very cool, and when we went to the counter to pay for our stay, I could inhale the Sherlock Holmes themed cafe in more detail. The cafe was so beautiful, and I am looking forward to going there again. It is such a nice place and perfect for groups of 3 or more people to go play in.
I had a blast, even though I third-wheeled the whole day. I am looking forward to hanging out again with them both. Maybe weโll go to the same game cafe, because it is a place filled with magic and endless game options!
