Do you like Japanese cuisine – especially sashimi? If you live in Suncheon, then I recommend you go to Yori & Song (요리앤송) where you can eat plenty of sashimi and try other equally delicious Japanese dishes. In my opinion, it is the best sashimi in Suncheon!
Sashimi is a type of Japanese cuisine consisting of raw fish or other seafood, served without any accompanying seasonings or sauces. It is usually served in thin slices, either on its own or with accompaniments such as wasabi, soy sauce, or pickled ginger. Sashimi is believed to have originated in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). It is now served in many countries around the world, including South Korea.
The popularity of sashimi in Korea is due to its freshness and high nutritional value. It is especially popular among health-conscious diners and those who are looking for a unique dining experience. The different types of sashimi available in Korea also appeal to different palates – from those who prefer subtle flavors to those who enjoy bolder tastes.
Yori & Song is located a few bus stops from Suncheon Station. This place is quite popular among locals. So, if you go there on holidays or weekends, it is better to book a table in advance or call to check availability. Once I went there, and there were no empty seats. Instead, I had to look for another place that day. Operation hours are from 11:30 to 22:00, break time is from 14:00 to 16:30. Every Tuesday is a day off.
This restaurant has three types of tonkatsu, that are served in a similar way as in Japanese restaurants. The pork cutlet is fried with a thin layer of crispy crust, and the sauce is served separately. In total, three small-sized cutlets are given.
Several types of sushi are offered (a set of 8 pieces): shrimp, fresh shrimp, beef steak, fresh salmon, and some others. For those who find it difficult to choose a dish, there are several options. Firstly, they can choose two types of sushi and order a set, where 4 pieces will be one flavor, and the remaining 4 pieces will be another. Or, you can order a set of 4 sushi with tonkatsu.
The most popular order here is sashimi. Prices are not that high. For example, a set of more than 20 pieces of fresh salmon costs 32,000 Won. The main advantage is that when ordering sashimi, a very large number of side dishes are served. To be honest, if you eat all of them before you get sashimi, you might feel already full. Also, every time ordering sashimi you can get different types of side dishes. For example, one time they gave me udon, while on another day it was blowfish and tuna tataki.
There are now many sashimi restaurants throughout Korea. I recommend visiting Yori & Song in Suncheon, which offers a unique dining experience with various side dishes.
