Without a doubt Gusto Taco is the best Mexican restaurant in Hongdae! Weather you want to try Mexican cuisine for the first time, or want a taste of home, this is a foodies’ paradise. Tacos, burritos, margaritas -and my favorite chimichangas are all on the menu!
Stumbling upon the Mexican Restaurant in Hongdae
I always have been interested in the world of cuisine since I was able to travel around as a kid. The first I tasted different kinds of foods, other than my home country of Cambodia’s cuisine, was when I went to Hong Kong at 8 years old.
Chinese cuisine was the start of my food exploration. It created a spark from deep within me, turning me into the foodie I am today! As a foodie, I am particularly interested in trying new foods and like to learn about the food culture. Recently, here in Korea, I have tried Uzbek, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine. Now, it is time for a new member of the international food family to join my list -Mexican food!
I only recently tried Mexican food because I wanted my first experience to be authentic. I finally found a place with great reviews and a reasonable price, recommended by Mexican residents here in Korea. Gusto Taco is known for being one of the best Mexican restaurants in Korea.
This Mexican Restaurant in Hongdae is near Sang-Su station, a 1 min walk from exit 1. The area is not so busy and includes a beautiful view of the highway and people walking. Once you arrive at the exit 1 station, turn right around the corner and about 100 m you will see Gusto Taco on your left-hand side.
Gusto Taco in Hongdae: Interior
As you walk up the stairs, you will be greeted with a beautiful view of natural wood and lovely plants. Then, you will notice that the restaurant is divided into 3 sections. There is a balcony section, a middle section, and a back section.
The balcony section is the most famous area people come to sit. There are times when it is fully booked, especially during good weather. This seat will give you the best view over the road and is good for taking photos for social media.
For the middle section, you will be seated in front of the kitchen. However, you won’t be able to see much of the kitchen. You will still have the view of the balcony but not as good as the balcony section. On the side, you will be sitting under a transparent roof that allows the sunlight to shine through and you will receive natural sunlight. I personally like this area because there isn’t too much noise from the street. And, I like sitting under sunshine and warm natural light <3
The last section is just in the back and is simply decorated. It is for the people who want to be far away from the front and like to eat in peace without disturbance by the conversation of other customers.
Now onto the most important thing – food!!! They have many choices for you including a kid’s menu and a vegetarian menu. The menu has traditional Mexican cuisine such as tacos, burritos, etc. All of it tastes amazing as I have tried each and every item on the menu.
After eating everything, I decided Chimichangas are from the heavens. I would choose Chimichanga every day because the flavor of it is something that I have never tried before and there is a chicken option which is a plus for me.
If there is a certain type of meat that you don’t like, not to worry. You can choose the variety of meat you like, such as beef, pork, chicken, veggie, and even fish. Everything is sorted out for you. The meat choice is only available for tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. You can also choose some American-style food like a burger or sandwich.
Overall, they have a variety of meals you can choose from. Plus, there are many drinks to choose from, ranging from lemonade to soda and beer to cocktails too. They sell margaritas, mojitos, and delicious Mexican drinks. It would be a good place for you to go especially if you are a foreigner because you will get special offers for first-timers. Hope you enjoy this article. Best wishes. <3
