Cherry Blossom Flower Festivals
In Korea, spring officially begins with the welcoming of cherry blossoms. Undoubtedly, they are the most beloved flower in Korea. Before the pandemic, Korean cherry blossoms brought in guests from all over the world. Korean cherry blossom festivals are known for their uniqueness and beauty. This is because Korea is not only home to standard cherry blossoms but also some stunning variations of the flower.
However, now that the pandemic restrictions are concluding in Korea but travel is still difficult the festivals are a bit different than in previous years. They are not nearly crowded as before, but there were fewer additional activities.
One of the most popular cherry blossom flower festivals is located at Yujongno Cherry Alley near the National Assembly Building in Yeoido, Seoul. 1,400 cherry trees set April’s sunny days ablaze. The white-pink carpet of flower petals is sure to fascinate everyone who has been here.
Not only does Yeoido have a spectacular cherry blossom festival, but the alley behind the National Assembly building turns into a flower tunnel. There, you can enjoy the magnificent scent of azaleas, forsythia, and other spring flowers.
However, Yeoido is often crowded. If you aren’t a fan of crowds there are other delightful cherry blossom flower festivals in Korea for you to enjoy.

Wild Plum Blossom Festivals
While the cherry blossom flower festival has multiple locations throughout the country, the single biggest flower festival in Korea is the International Wild Plum Blossom Festival. It is held yearly in the city of Gwangyang.
Jeollannam-do is the first province in Korea to welcome spring. As the Cherry Blossoms bloom, so do the wild plum blossoms. In fact – plum, peach, and cherry blossoms are often misidentified as each other. Plum blossoms have rounded petals and no leaf stalks. Cherry blossom petals have a notch and long stems. Despite often being mistaken for yet another cherry blossoms festival, the wild plum festival is a sight to behold.
Travelers will be welcome to a carpet of flower snow as pure white petals line the plum blossom path. Open flowers bloom along the Seomjingang River. As you cross over the river’s bridge, you can almost kiss the blossoms as the wonderful aroma of flowers fills your nose.
In addition to enjoying the flowers themselves, you can also enjoy local delicacies and seasonal plum-themed treats. You can eat plum ice cream as you stroll along the plum blossoms. Then, in the evening you can enjoy plum bibimbap for dinner as you sip on plum rice wine.
Sansuyu Flower Festival
Sansuyu Flower Festival is unique to Korea. It is a type of Dogwood that can only be found naturally in a few places. While it is a type of dogwood, it looks completely different from other variations of the plant around the world.
It has bright yellow flowers. The flowers consist of long stems with pompoms at the end of them. Plus, the flowers are edible!
At the Sansuyu Flower Festival, you can enjoy the yellow blossoms and spring atmosphere. Then, you can taste tea, alcohol, and various dishes made with the flower. Additionally, you can also attend events and workshops as well as attend concerts and a colorful fireworks display.
The Taean International Tulip Festival has been named one of the top five tulip displays in the world. This year the festival took on an animal fairytale theme. Sculptures included castles and two giant peacocks made entirely of flowers. While the majority of flowers were tulips, in order to create the ornate living sculptures, other flowers were of course added.
In addition, tourists were delighted to see lupins, lilies, rapeseeds, and other variations of beautiful flowers and plants. During the festival, guests were also able to feed animals, get their faces painted, and take part in other fun activities.
