Pokemon has come to Baskin Robbins Korea for the entire month of May! In addition to Pokemon-themed decor, there are also themed cakes, ice creams, treats, and collectibles that will be sold at the store. With the combination of my two favorite things, Pokemon and ice cream, of course, I had to catch them all! In 8 days I have tried every item in the collection so you donโt have to.
Pokemon Craze in Korea
The biggest Korean food trend of spring 2022 has been Pokemon Bread. Convenience stores throughout the country began offering various Pokemon-themed baked goods which included collectible sticker cards.
They became so popular that they completely sold out. For the past several months, long lines of people can be seen outside convenience stores on delivery days hoping to be able to buy their own. However, many of them fail to purchase the Pokemon Bread and must resort to reselling platforms that have been flooded with collectible treats. To read more about the Pokemon Bread creaze Click Here.
Since the Pokemon Bread craze took off, the overall desire for Pokemon-themed items has also increased. Pokemon plushies, toys, and snacks have all been selling out.
And so, Baskin Robbins Korea has also jumped on the trend. On March 1, 2022, Baskin Robbins Korea released the first of its Pokemon-themed products.
Pokemon Ice Cream
They released one scoopable ice cream flavor called Pikachu. It is a Banana flavored ice cream with chocolate chips and pop rocks. Personally, I tried this flavor and did not like it. The banana flavor was very artificial. Plus, the pop rocks were the same type included in their shooting star ice cream. They were coated in a sweet icing that was overwhelming when paired with the already artificially sweet banana flavor.
For two weeks only, Baskin Robbins Korea will have a Squirtle themed lemon soda ice cream. It is available from May 7 until May 21st. This one is much better than the Pickachu flavor! The lemon and Ramune flavors pair nicely for a refreshing treat on a warm day. It was just what I needed after a long bike ride along the Han river.
Ice Cream Cones
For to-go ice cream cones, Baskin Robbins Korea is selling both a Psyduck and a Jiggly Puff cone. The Psyduck ice cream cone is the best option for those who donโt have an extreme sweet tooth. It is a vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered almonds distributed throughout it.
The Jiggly Puff ice cream cone was acceptable. It was a strawberry ice cream with pop rocks distributed throughout it. I definitely think the pop rocks paired better with a sweet and sour strawberry flavor, rather than banana.
Pokemon Blast
For Blasts, Baskin Robbinsโ version of a shake or smoothie, they had both Snorlax and Pikachu flavors. If you are a Pikachu fan, I definitely recommend the Pikachu blast over the Pikachu ice cream. The Pikachu blast is Banana milk flavored and overall, I found it a lot more pleasant than the ice cream.
The Snorlax Blast was my favorite of the collection. It was Milkis flavored! Which, happens to be my favorite soda. Plus, Snorlax is super cute! However, it didnโt completely taste like Milkis. In fact, it tasted like milk was just added to the ramune flavor in the Squirtle ice cream. It was surprisingly good.
Mochi
Iโm not going to lie, a week has passed and I continue to be upset by the Bulbasaur mochi. I realize that I am 20 years older than the target audience for this collection but really โ bubble gum!?! Objectively, it was a bad decision.
I am not sure who decided a plant type, nature, Pokemon would be the worldโs most artificial flavor but OKAY. >:ใ ฃHowever, some did come in a Bulbasaur figure so 100/10 for the packaging.
Cake
I thought it might be a little bit excessive to buy an entire cake, so this is the one thing in the Baskin Robbins Pokemon collection that I did not try. However, the cake is made of Pikachu ice cream which wasnโt to my tastes, so chances are that flavorwise I wouldnโt like it too much. But, there is a scoop of what looks like โMom is an Alienโ on the top which might have been able to save it. โMom is an Alienโ is my third favorite Baskin Robbins ice cream flavor.
That being said, it is an adorable cake, and just seeing pictures of it fills me with happiness. A 20 year younger me, would absolutely lose my mind over this cake. If you know someone who is a Pokemon fan and their birthday is in May, this cake will undoubtedly make them very happy.
Collectables
During the month of May, you can purchase collectible Pokemon stickers for an extra 100 won with your ice cream. Each pack has three stickers. Plus, they each come with a poster that has squares on the back of it where you can put the stickers you collect. Honestly, I wish they didnโt come with the poster. I have six of them.
Although the stickers can repeat, I only got one set of the same ones. The stickers are pretty high quality and each has their number and name in Korean on the back. As far as cheap Pokemon collectibles go, Iโm pretty happy with them. They arenโt as high quality or on cards like the Pokemon Bread stickers, but theyโre a lot easier to get your hands on. Plus, I got Umbreon and Vaporeon in the first pack!
Conclusion

I love Pokemon so I was really excited about this collection. However, I would not get any of the items in the collection again. I usually prefer grandma flavors like mugwort, green tea, and injeolmi and it was the exact opposite of that. I found all of the flavors too sweet and artificial tasting. It all depends on personal preference but the flavors in this collection just werenโt for me.ย
