Gongju has a small but beautiful Hanok village. Most people do not know about it since Gongju is not a city that normally lands on people’s travel itineraries. Similar to Jeonju, the Hanok village in Gongju has been updated and is well maintained. While most of the buildings were once homes to Korea’s yangban caste, they are now mostly shops and cafes. Among these ancient-style buildings, is where you will find Baming Donut.
As a donut lover, in every city I go to, I try to scope out the best donut shops in town. When I went to Gongju, I knew I had to try out Baming Donut ( 밤잉도넛) . The place is a famous local spot that is immensely popular despite its lack of an online presence.
The donut shop has gained a lot of popularity, in large part due to its decor, both inside and out. Is at a Hanok house, that has been left in its natural state, so both the outside and the inside are amazing. Also, being located in one of Gongju’s most popular shopping districts, it is always busy.
Personally, the thing I loved the most was the sticker table in which you can get some free souvenirs for yourself and your friends. I find their mascot really cute, so I got one of each sticker.
The donut shop has two floors, the first one is where the counter is located where you can purchase your donuts and drinks. The second floor is the eating area, where you can have a seat and enjoy some time with friends.
They also have a small section of the donut shop on the first floor where they sell wines from Cream of X. Cream of X is a local winery in South Chungcheon province. Plus they occasionally sell other local artisan foods that make great gifts.
I have actually been to Baming Donuts a few times before. Gongju is the closest major city to where I live, so I have become a regular. Without a doubt, they have some of the best donuts around. Every time I go, I leave with enough donuts to satisfy my craving for the next several days. As a result, I have tried nearly every flavor they offer. Not a single one was a disappointment.

Baming Donut is also a coffee shop, so they offer lots of drinks to go with their sweet desserts. Their Americanos are 4,000 won while their other coffees are sold for up to 5,500 won. They also sell teas from 4,500 won to 5,000 won. Additional drinks include milks, ades, and smoothies.

As for the donuts, here are some of their flavors and their prices:

- Choco Ganache – 3.8

From what I noticed, most of the flavors are always available in the store, but donuts like the lemon cream sometimes are switched for others like peanut cream, earl gray cream, or corn cream donut.
If you are looking for a traditional flavor, go for the Vanilla Custard. It is simple but incredibly delicious. In case you want something more regional, try the Chesnut Cream, since the nut is the specialty of the town.
In case you want to take some home, they can put six donuts in their cute little box when you order takeout.
Conclusion
Baming Donut is the best donut shop in Gongju for sure. Their light dough and perfectly balanced fillings go amazingly together. It’s incredibly tempting to keep coming back to try all of their flavors. Baming Donut should be on your list of places to visit in Gongju for sure!
