The Best Spot to Enjoy the Dreamy Autumn

With its breathtaking views, you will get hipnotized!

No matter where you walk, this place seems to be drawn out from a painting. This is because each of its sceneries are full of color. Plus, all the variety of plants and trees that you will come across, turn the view into a stunning one.

That is the main reason to why a lot of people like visiting this place during fall. Hence, it is very enjoyable to stroll along the paths full of nature. Specially when the leaves fall as you walk below the trees. It indeed feels dreamy!

Because of that, Nami Island (남이섬) is considered as one of the must-visit places to see the Autumn Foliage in South Korea.

It is important to mention that you can enjoy it from mid-september to november.

Introduction to Nami Island

Namiseom (南怡苫) is a half-shaped island that is located in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. Which was formed in 1944, when the Japanese built Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐), and the water level of the Bukhangang River (북한강) naturally turned it into an island.

It is named Namiseom due to the death of the General Nami from Joseon Dynasty, who was buried on the northern hill of the Island after being fasely accused of treason.

Min Byeong-do (민병도), the founder of Nami Island, built a memorial stone around the pile of stones where the General Nami was buried, in order for his spirit to rest. And also, donated around two thousand of trees in 1965.

Naminara Republic

In March 1, 2006, it was re-named to Naminara Republic after declaring its cultural independence.

By this, we mean that it now has its own passport, currency, stamps and even its own telephone card! Making it into an interesting experience for sure.

Highlights during Fall

As mentioned before, no matter where you look at, you will enjoy the most beautiful views for sure. However, there are some parts of the island that stand out.

And now, we are about to introduce you to these. Some dreamlike spots that you might want to visit.

Bungalow Row Riverside Path

While strolling along this path, your eyes will be surely pleased. This is because the color of the river’s water combines beautifully with the vivid leaves.

Plus, being near to the water, means that you can feel the breeze while the wind is blowing. And that, is for sure is one of the reason to why it is so relaxing to walk around there.

When you stroll through this path, you will be able to find some hidden photo spots.

And what it is better, is that it is more likely to not have a multitude of people waiting to take a picture. And this is because some of these photo spots are beside the street.

So, if you really want to have some unique pictures from this place, we recommend you to walk along the river.

Baekpungmilwon Maple Garden (백풍밀원)

This is a maple tree forest that was created in 2008, with the meaning of ‘A place where numerous maple trees are planted’. The reason of its name, is because around 300 maple trees were planted.

This has to be for sure one of the most visited areas from the island during fall. Due to the beautiful shape of the leaves and its color.

Plus, it indeed feels pretty pleasant when you walk above the fallen leaves.

Gingko Tree Lane

This is for sure one of the most photogenic spots from the island. And no wonder why! The lively yellow color from the leaves, makes you mesmerized. Specially when the wind blows, and these start falling as if it was rain.

In addition, the illusion of deepness that the lined trees create, draws your attention for sure. You unconciously feel the urge to walk between of them because of that.

Unfortunately, I visited the island when leaves had already fallen.

Korean Pine Tree Lane

This is the first path that you will come across when you reach Nami Island. Therefore, it leads to the center of it.

Honestly, it makes you feel welcome. Because of the decorations that are placed on the trees.

Metasequoia Lane

These redwood trees are impressive to see. Due to their height, and how sturdy they look. And of course, the colorful leaves!

If you want to enjoy walking in this path calmly, you must arrive early in the morning. Because this is a place that fastly gets crowded.

Yeonryeonji Pond (연련지)

In my personal opinion, this place looks much better during summer. However, in autumn you can still get some good shots from it. Since it kinda looks more traditional due to the the sepia colors of the scene.

The lotuses look quite impressive. Because of how many there are.

A Variety of Ponds

You can find a lot of ponds in the island. And all of them, are really beautiful.

Korean Pavilions

It is pretty relaxing to sit in these pavilions and just enjoy the sight. Therefore, we recommend you to rest in these places while you are touring the island.

With this, we conclude that Nami Island (남이섬) is indeed one of the best places to enjoy the Autumn Foliage in South Korea.

Meet wild animals along the way!

You can see animals freely roaming around the island!

Another reason to why you will feel entertained in the island, is that you will be able to see wild animals wherever you go.

There is a great variety of animals. But the ones you are going to see more often are the chipmunks and the rabbits.

However, you should not try to catch them. Since it is their home and must not be molested.

Halloween in Nami Island

Fortunately, it still autumn season when halloween is celebrated. Because of this, it is a great opportunity to visit and see the decorations!

While you are touring around, you will come across with them. Some of the decorations you might often see, are ghosts suspended from the trees and light bulbs with halloween design.

But what I like the most, is that some of the restaurants follow the trend! By selling dishes with halloween theme.

Just look at this carbonara pasta! They cut the bread to make it seem like a halloween pumpkin.

It is worth to mention that the dishes are of course different each year. This was the design of 2020.

Another dish that I found really cute, it was a hot dog, in which the sausage was dressed as a mummy.

In addition, they gave a cute small bag of candies to whoever ordered from the halloween menu!

Restaurant and Cafés

They have several restaurants and cafés in the island. From authentic korean food to western, you can find the most delicious dishes to satisfy your hunger after a long day.
