You probably have seen a lot of stunningly beautiful photos from the Arte Museum chain. All of them have media installations with vibrant colors, sounds, and complementary scents. They are a series of immersive galleries that allow you to experience art with all of your senses. But today I will be focusing on Arte Museum Valley Gangneung. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Eternal Nature’ showcasing the beautiful nature of Gangneung and Gangwondo.
The Arte Museum in Gangneung was opened in December 2021. It is the third immersive media art exhibition of this kind. It is located next to Gyeonpo Lake and covers a space of 4,975 square meters. The exhibition is designed by d’strict. The theme for the museum in Gangneung is ‘Eternal Nature’. Enjoy these twelve different rooms designed according to the characteristics of the Gangwondo province!

Before entering the exhibition, bring one of the pamphlets with you to find your way. It is a world of wonders and it is easy to get lost. Take your time to immerse into the experience to the fullest and just take it slow.
Some of the projections are in an open space, while others are in separate rooms. You can easily roam around for hours on end. If you have time, you can also go back to something you saw before and maybe find a new fascinating detail.
The first room you will enter is a sea of colorful flowers. There are a few more small rooms to explore and it opens up to different parts of the exhibition.
This installation is separated into two parts, both of them show all the cycles of the four seasons. You will encounter a tiger, a phoenix, and a deer here. All of which are powerful images from Korean mythology.
You will meet the deer once again in this special interactive exhibition. In this room you can walk up to the projection of the deer and the deer will react to you and also change his appearance.
This space is covered in mirrors on all sides. Listening to the sound of the roaring sound of water falling will help you to fully emerge into the experience.
From the waterfall room, you can walk over a bridge, looking down on the forest and flower projections, to the beach room. It also can be reached on floor level. The beach has a wonderful combination of sounds and colors, so you almost feel like looking at the ocean.
The room is decorated with paper lanterns changing colors to the sound of rain. The whole installation has a calming effect and will help you forget your stress.
However, the last room was definitely calm before the storm. Things now begin to get exciting. This concave space will make you feel like you are in an endless tunnel with no way out. Plus the tunnel is constantly changing, experience the change from a baren cave to one filled with life.
Already before entering the room you will hear the roaring thunder from outside. This room shows the might of a thunderstorm in an impressive way. You won’t be able to help but be captivated by the chaotic energy of this room.
After the storm, comes the sun. This small space represents the sun and makes a perfect photo spot. You can’t help but feel cozy here.
This huge wave is projected on a half-circle. You can just stand at the wall and watch the wakes break.
The wall showcases animals that were colored by visitors. So if you want, take one of the coloring pages and start! After you scan your finished work, it will also appear on the wall and walk with all the others.
In this room where you can stay the longest. It shows two different exhibitions. The first one is paintings by famous artists, such as Gustav Klimt and Vincent Van Gogh. The other one is centered around the beauty of the Gangwondo province. To see both of them, it will take 30 minutes. The exit of the exhibition is in the Garden.
After leaving the last multimedia room, you will reach the Tea bar. There you can enjoy a drink in a beautiful setting. When purchasing the ticket, you will also get a coupon for the tea bar. Before living the museum, there is a shop with merchandise related to the exhibition. You can find the scents you smelled or projections you saw for sale there.
I really enjoyed the whole museum. Entering the exhibition felt like being in a different world. It is the perfect place to unwind from your stress and let your fantasy run free.
In particular, I really loved the interactive room, but I probably could have stayed at the Beach the longest. For me, it was the perfect place to sit down on the floor, listen to the waves, and daydream. In my opinion, it is definitely worth a visit. However, I would advise visiting, if possible, during the week to fully enjoy it.
The exhibition is open from 10 am to 8 pm (the last admission is at 7 pm). You can reserve tickets online but it is totally fine to just buy them there. If you pay with card, you have to use the ticket machine, otherwise, you can purchase tickets at the counter. The price for an adult is 17,000 Won, for teenagers 13,000 Won and for kids 10,000 Won. If you want, you can also buy a combination ticket, which includes the entrance fee and one tea at the Tea Bar.
