If summer normally rhymes with heat and sun, in Korea it rhymes more with the moonsoon season. I know it can be a bummer especially if you’re visiting for a few days. So instead of sitting in your depressed hotel room on a rainy day, we gathered a few activities to do during rainy days in Seoul. That said, many of them are also valid no matter where you are in South Korea.
Spend a day in the mall
I guess we can all agree that shopping malls are our saviors worldwide to escape the bad weather. We can wander inside for hours, losing track of time and space.
Seoul has plenty of shopping malls with plenty of stores and activities inside to make you stay. Recently a new shopping mall opened and its so popular, you can take this opportunity to check what all the rage is about:
There’s nothing like a good shopping spree to lift your spirits and find souvenirs to bring back from Korea. The Koreans have everything planned so that you can do your shopping without getting too wet. Whether in the large metro stations which are full of small and friendly shops or in the large indoor shopping centers, you will certainly find what you are looking for! From cosmetics to clothing, including accessories, books, etc.
Visit an aquarium
As i said before, malls in Korea have more to offer than stores. COEX Mall in Gangnam has an aquarium inside. Yes, you heard me well. Why not stop by and discover new species you might never seen before.
Visit a museum
While museums are a great activity on rainy days, it is also a good opportunity to learn more about the history of the country. Whether you are in Seoul or elsewhere in Korea, there are so many diverse museums to learn about history, food, traditions, etc. Also, there are so many museums available for free so why not take the chance.
Go to a theme cafe
Korea is filled with various cafes with each its own theme and particularity. You can take your time to discover a cafe and spend the afternoon there doing an activity. You can find cafes where you can paint for instance. Or you can spend the day in a musical universe listening to old vinyls in Hannam:
Seoul also has a plenty of themed cafes related to books and movies, for instance, there’s a popular Harry potter themed cafe in Hongdae, crazy right?
Visit a bookstore
Seoul’s libraries are not your regular bookstore. They have some aesthetically pleasing places full of books. You can wander around all day, take instagramable pictures (shamelessly), grab a book and chill~
I previously wrote an article about the beautiful libraries here in Seoul, make sure to check it out:
Once again Korea showed us there’s literally no dull moment in this country! There’s always something to do, something to see, it’s up to you to see it and we’re here to guide you through it.
