Things to Do

A day of fun at Gyeongju Expo Park.

Brief Introduction

The Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park occupies the space near the Bomun Lake area. The park is opened all year to visitors. It consists of the Gyeongju Tower, Natural History Museum, Gyeongju Expo Memorial centre, Timeless Media Art, Cultural Center, Exhibition hall and a healing trail; Luminar night walk.

What to expect in Gyeongju Expo Park

My first stop was the tower which was about 850 meters high. It was built in the shape of a wooden pagoda. You can take the elevator to the top of the tower to see the city. There is also a café on the top where you can have some coffee while feeding your eyes. There are usually used to be a lot of people but for the pandemic situation, there weren’t a lot of tourists. An 8000 Won ticket covers all the attractions. The memorial centre had a Paik Nam June piece and some display on all the cultural expo hosted in Gyeongju.

The Timeless Media art had some images representing the famous sights and cultural heritages of Gyeongju projected. If you are an exhibition lover

There are some great pieces among which was Mr Park Dae-sung’s. He always inspires me. There is a place with a glass window that is famous on social media where you can Mr Park’s work on the first floor. Although, the scenery changes from season to season, you still get to see the beauty of each season. I was happy to see Mr Park while taking a picture.

Park Dae-sung is a painter who lost his parents and an arm during the Korean war. He was teased as a young boy whenever he went to school and as such didn’t want to go to school. So, he drew as he played with tree branches alone by the river. He is a unique figure in Korean art as he self-taught without learning to paint.

When I visited, the “Wolmyeong” was performed in the theatre and so I went to see it. Later, in the night, I took a walk in the Lumina night walk. The scenery is so beautiful at night.

How to get there

The Gyeongju Expo park is a bus drive away from the Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal. It is a great place for family and friends that love art.
