I love a good time with friends over delicious food and drinks. I love it more when the atmosphere of the place is cozy and has a vintage vibe for great for Instagram pictures. Introducing Mimi Bar, a cozy place that sells scrumptious food along with plenty of drinks down in Ilsan. Unbeknownst to us, Mimi Bar is actually a hip and popular place for everyone in Ilsan. After our time there, we could see why.
Mimi Bar: Outside
Settled in a sea of bars and restaurants in Ilsan, Mimi Bar stands out with its rustic decor mixed in with the surrounding greenery. Outside the bar, there is a tent where you can sit with friends away from the sun or the cold air. There is also a beautifully decorated archway leading you to the tent.
My friends and I sat in the tent for our little get-together. We were able to enjoy that wonderful spring weather with the delicious food and beverages served after we had ordered. The owner of the restaurant bar was pleasant and accommodating to our needs. She provided customers with baskets to keep their bags in and soft blankets for those who were wearing shorts, just in case they got cold. Mimi Bar’s service was tip-top!
We started off with two of their most popular dishes; Grilled Pork Jowl with Salt and Scallions (한정살 소금구이 & 파절이) and their Rosé Tomato Cream Stew (로제 토마토 크림 스튜).
The Grilled Pork Jowl with Salt and Scallions (한정살 소금구이 & 파절이) was amazing. The meat was soft, succulent, and had just the right balance of fat. When paired together with the mustard, wasabi, and scallions. My taste buds felt delighted by the party of flavors bouncing around. My chopsticks kept grabbing at each piece, no matter how far away it was from me. It was like I was possessed!
Next up was the Rosé Tomato Cream Stew (로제 토마토 크림 스튜). When the owner first brought it to the table, all our mouths dropped open in awe.
My stomach growled loudly enough for me to feel it as I eyed the stew in front of me. There were thick shrimp, green broccoli, and slices of bread dipped into the stew. We all quickly grabbed one each. The moment I bit down into the stew-soaked toasted slice, my eyes flew wide with shock. The taste of the stew was like heaven on earth! It was tangy, creamy, and everything else fantastic under the sun. It was my favorite out of everything we had so far….But that was not the best part….
The Second Round
Once we were done with the stew, what remained of it was made into pasta! They have that option here at Mimi Bar. I’m telling you – heaven on earth! The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was creamier and richer than before. I kept going round after round until my friends had to tell me off to leave some for them as well. Whoops!
After having something creamy like that, we were craving something with a little more kick. So, we ordered ourselves the Braised Kimchi Stew with Grilled Pork Belly (통삼겹살 묵은지 김치찜). There was only one way to describe it, perfect in every way. The stew itself was not too strong and paired well with the thick slices of pork belly. The meat melted on my tongue, and before I knew it, it had dissipated. It was my second favorite out of the four.
Mimi Bar: Inside
After stuffing my face full, I decided to go inside and take a gander at the interior of the restaurant-bar. The interior had a very vintage yet modern feel to it. Cozy and welcoming.
They even had a bar set up at the end of the restaurant that gave it more of that classic antiquity vibe. It is sad that we didn’t stay long enough to experience more of Mimi Bar. I would have liked to sit at the bar at least once.
Mimi bar is the perfect place to stuff your face with high-quality food, drinks and service. The space is also perfect for your Instagram feed as well! I can definitely see why Mimi’s Bar is so popular with the residents of Ilsan. I highly recommend this place for foodies or those who just want a time well spent with close friends.
